This may get shot down quickly as its my "its 2am and ive got an idea that can change the world" thought for the day.

If you were to cover all your tread where they touch the road (masking tape, etc) and leave only the tread grooves exposed wouldnt it be logical to apply some sort of teflon or anti stick spray into the grooves to create superior mud cleaning? is there some sort of rubber/tire friendly compound out there?

I know there are teflon coated wheels specifically made so mud doesnt stick... so... why not use the same idea for your tires?

perhaps too time consuming? but i know there are "mud" tires out there that dont clean well in mud so why not?

Teflon is a rigid coating, very brittle, it would flake off the tires very quickly if you could even get it to stick.

I've been told to use a silicone-based lube to coat fender wells to keep mud from sticking. And I know it works well on sidewalls when people use things like "Black Magic" to polish them up to look good. I would think you could easily just use a spray bottle or similar to spray down the whole tire and then *carefully* drive around on some flat roads for a while to clean off the treads. Maybe worth trying if you just mud but I think it'll hurt more than help if you plan to hit ANY rocks at all.

Add to this the abrasive crud that tires plough through every day, even on the street. You'd have to impregnate the tire rubber itself with the 'release agent'...now that appeals to me: Tires whose rubber is guaranteed NOT to stick to anything.

 Yeah. Where do I sign up? :tongue in cheek:
