I would pull the wiper seals, felt, and rings to see if its wet around the ball. Could just be some grease heated up around the trunion bearing and dripped. Those HD Marlin seals are pretty stout if they aren't damaged while putting your shafts in. Easy tightening those wiper ring bolts, I snapped one a while back.:wrench::wrench::bang::wrench:

Yea I think the torque is 34 ft/lb. I'll check it out.

Alright the bolts holding the wiper were really loose, so that could have been the culprit. I think the vasoline, I mean High Temp grease, that was used to pack the birfs look good. What do y'all think? You can actually see it about to drip in the pic below. The FSM doesn't specify a torque for the wiper plate bolts, so I'm going to go a little tighter than it was before, clean up the area, and see what happens.

I've only driven it a hand full of times since SCC and there are drip marks on the tire from where it has sat, so I'm afraid I'm hosed. Looks like I'll be going back to OEM inner axle seals. I'm surprised the gear oil is that clean after making it pass the seal and meeting up with the bird grease.naw don`t think that is GL5

What else will I need besides the inner axle seals? nuttin

Paul it looks like I will need to get that hub nut socket from you. NO!

if it was loose those teflon wipers ma not of seated.

yes reset clean & C

Looks like the inner seals are holding good, you would have seen some gear oil around the bottom trunion if you had a bad inner seal leak. IMO
Yep clean it up, see if it comes back, and how long it takes before removing your knuckles. Unless you are bored and want to tear into it.

Might be a breather issue cause some pressure build up and expansion, pushing oil out past the IA seals. Mine does that sometimes when oil pools in the breather lines. I just have to disconnect them and blow them out. Then the leaks stop after I reconnected them.

X2, I've seen that when a mud dauber made a nest over my breather vent, if not venting the pressure will push out somewhere.

Rear Bumper Winch Plate

Ok, I'm running into a little obstacle here. Below is a picture of the winch mounting plate for my rear bumper (This all came in a kit). The bright green is the rear x-member that it will be welded too. All of the winches that I've seen are spooled so that you the line is fed from the bottom of the drum. This plate leads me to believe that my rear winch needs to be fed from the top of the drum. Is there an issue with this, besides the fact that it will change the way that I wire it?

Lets see a pic with the plate and the winch

only if ya live down under:grinpimp:

Lets see a pic with the plate and the winch

Unfortunately the winch is still in my front bumper which is on the cruiser at the house. I found a sketch of one and did a really poor job of trying to put it in the picture, but it may give you a better perspective. Remember this is going in my REAR bumper.

Let me try asking the question like this, if I spool a winch with the line running on top of the spool, it will be spooled in reverse. Will the winch have the same pulling power (now that I will be winching in opposite of normal operation) and two will it affect the inner-workings of the winch (since the load will be pulling in the opposite direction). My gut tells me that there won't be an issue.

My .2 I would agree with your gut bud and say your pulling power would be the same in forward and reverse and don't think you'd harm the winch any.

OK! the only issue that you will have will depend on the type of gears in the winch.
just like a rear end under hi load ya want the teeth to pull into them selves not push away. thus the Toyota hi pinion it pull like the rear where as std 40 60 0r peek up your front diff is ruin realty is pulling in reverse when ya B A goin Foward.

soooo if it is a planetary gear should not make a foo young puck capiche?

capiche

To keep this clear in my mind. the four bolt holes in the winch plate is for the bottom of the winch to bolt to ?

No the four bolt holes would mount to the face of the winch.
