Brakes is what I am lacking.... I have some severally leaky wheel cylinders and I don't know if it is worth it to actually pay for the parts and fix them. I just think that would be a waste of money to spend 300-400 dollars on new brake components on drum brakes and then turn around and spend another 500 dollars for a disc brake front axle.

P.s Hey Larry can you send me a pic of your early fj40's tail gate if it is original. I found one on ebay but want to make sure it will fit and I believe that you have a 67 which should be the same as a 66. drewsmith1984@gmail.com Thanks in advance.

Gotcha and will do

So after taking my rear third out and putting it back in again with worse results, I have decided to break down and just take the 3rd back out one last time and take it to someone who knows what they are doing. I just don't have the tools to do it right.

My question is...who in Lafayette does a good job on setting up gears and isn't too pricey? I have all of the parts needed and I will bring just the third so it should be a pretty quick job. Any info on a good shop would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

I took mind to B@M it was over $8oo.oo that was only one.

That's a little high. Did you have it out of your axle or was it still in the truck?

Oh, and thanks for the PM's. I will try to contact the persons and establishments mentions within.

I had out of the truck then i brought it to them.

That's crazy. You could buy one that's already set up for less than that. Most places I've talked to so far said they would charge about 2 hrs labor - so about $150.

Yep i know i got :censor: but i wanted go to OCC and it was at the last min.... thing.

I second Cajun offroad. They suplied my spool, gears, install kits, and labor and it was only like 1600 for everything. and that was front and rear, if you already have all your parts, and the third member pulled they should be very fair with their pricing.

EDIT: Wooo Hooo! this post was lucky numer 777 for me!

Nice, well it is up there right now. I am just waiting on a phone call. I guess they are pretty busy right now.

When I've had a few spare minutes on this trip, I've watched the FJC Trail Teams videos on my iPhone. On one video, the black Gibson badged FJC looked like it had a Lowrance GPS mounted on the center console. It looked like the fishing style units that go on boats. Did anyone see that before? I think that rig was at our first SCC. I was wondering because the Lowrance units for boats don't use regular power connectors like a car based one would.

lowrance makes one called the baja 500 are sumthing it just uses a reg hot and ground and has a twist connect be hind the unit , like every truck in the baja 1000 uses them . and it ha a gps puck u have to mount on top the truck

Bingo, that's it. Word in the forums is that it's awesome for offroading. Tough, and great for trail ID's, especially long distance, remote ones.
