from ih8mud FAQS:
fj60/62 front axle wms to wms = 60"

from Cruiser Outfitters:
fj60=58.5"
fj62=60"

from other web forums(Marlin, Yotatech, Pirate)
fj60=58.5"

From one mud member posting in a hardcore thread-based upon an actual measurement:
fj62 front wms to wms=60"

from another mud member posting in same thread
fj60 front axle ++ LCwizards 2 5/8" extension sleeve=61"

from Georg
fj60 and 62 axles == same

for those of you who have ASSEMBLED front axles accessible enough to measure, can you please post your results? Please take measurement with knuckles turned straight ahead and measure from the HUB WHEEL MOUNTING FACE to the opposing same surface. TIA- I know many mudders will appreciate putting this one to bed...

The difference is probably from one person posting and everyone else just copy/pasting that measurement... Or inaccurate measuring. :flipoff2:

They are the same through.

so you have one you took a measurement for?:flipoff2:. Thanks for the input. I know they're the same fj60-fj62 cause Georg says so, but what he didn't say so was HOW WIDE, and there are varying tales across the web(go figure) Hoping someone with an axle and a tape can kill this once and for all...

Close estimate on a 62 axle last night is 59.5" (rims / tires on). If someone else doesn't have a handier example, I could lift it and pull the wheels for a better measure.

Front 58.5

60/62 axles same WMS

Thank You^^^

Since I had the knuckles, hubs, steering arms, knuckle caps, bearing etc sitting there from the 87' FJ60, I thought what the heck, may as well assemble them on the 87' FJ60 & 74' FJ40 before cutting the knuckles off the 40.

So with everything assembled on the FJ40 and then the FJ60 housing, but without gaskets or shims, but put together and snugged down tight, I carefully measured the WMS to WMS. Was a little surprised as the measurements.

The 74'FJ40 was 56.25" and the 87' FJ60 was 58.5". I checked them several times to be sure since they weren't the 57" & 60" dimensions I was expecting.

Will get the 84' FJ60 rear WMS to WMS measurement in the next day or so and post it up.

Since there seems to be a few different WMS to WMS measurements floating around and this is something that a lot of us want to know, I'm going to start a post and ask for people to post the actual WMS to WMS measurements that they have actually taken and see if we can get some definitive data.

So if anyone has actual WMS to WMS measurements please post them up on the new thread.

Allen

What are the chances the Japanese made the widths in centimeters and not inches and these are the numbers you should be looking for?

149cm = 58.6614”

150 cm = 59.0551”

151cm = 59.4488”

152cm = 59.8425”

153cm = 60.2362”

my tape don't divise by tens(cause, y'know, Muricuh:rolleyes:...); I wasn't asking for specs, but a measurement:p. What else ya got:beer:

If you know the official track width measured with a known wheel and it's offset (not backspacing), you can derive the axle width.

i.e.
If the front track width is 58.5" and the stock wheel offset is Zero, the axle is 58.5" wide
If the front track width is 58.5" and the stock wheel offset is -6mm, the axle width is (58.5" - 12mm)

Someone should update the thread in the FAQS...
