Long story short, one side isn’t getting properly mixed hot/cold air. Finds a quarter in a vent. Hears a grinding noise from one of the vent doors. Takes apart the entire dash and opens up the heater box. Finds ground down gear. No way to to test a repair without putting the entire car back together. Ends up replacing the entire heater box.

@dudemancool could you do a small writeup on the symptoms and resolution? That would make it searchable for others coming along later.

Dad you’re making do a book report? On a Saturday? Wtf

After watching that, I'm sure glad I didn't let the dealer get back in there after one of their shop monkeys broke my recerc air dam. They even offered, on their dime. At least I have it officially documented with them and Toyota. So far, the JB Plastic Weld repair I did is still holding up. Knock on wood....

I assure you the lubergoober who broke the filter door would not be the tech fixing it.

But I DO understand where you’re coming from!

This is exactly why I always lock the glovebox door before arriving for a service. Our dealer never opens a locked storage area as they assume it has a pew pew in it. Or, in my case, a bunch of them as I collect all those normally hidden in random hidey holes.

Makes me want to remove the windshield cowl and add some mesh across the HVAC inlet to prevent any critters getting into the evaporator assembly.

And while I am in there install a ledge/U channel as back up to divert water from a leaky cowl seal.

I would say if I ever needed my AC box replaced, I’m driving to Chicago to have him do it….but after seeing that, I’d bet he’d tell me to kick rocks lol….that was brutal to watch

Pretty sure this is what they finally did to my 2018 under extended warranty to finally fix multiple heater/AC related shenanigans. In 2023 dollars it was a $7k job. I had no idea the labor was that extensive to get the part out. Glad it was at a different dealer than the one that recently didnt attach the lower radiator hose clamp when they changed my cracked radiator and stranded me on tbe highway with zero coolant after hose came off.
