I have one of PVCruisers' repro's installed on my 69 FJ55 and they are EXCEPTIONALLY well made. they really spared no expense on them, and compared to the NOS toyota one I have sitting in a bag, the repros they did are much nicer and theyre not old rubber thats been sitting forever.

I will get some pics this evening.

Thanks again, the WS is amazing!

The reason it costs so much is due to the many steps involved with making the part. One has to model the part in a CAD system, prototype and debug the drawing, cut steel for tooling and debug tooling, pay for material, labor, shipping, and still make a little money at the end of the day to justify all the work.

We are selling this product below what Toyota was offering it last time I bought a piece. I think it was retailing for around $240 last I checked through Toyota. I could have been greedy about the whole thing and jacked the price up ( I talked with a few other guys who were starting this same project and wanted to sell the part in excess of $300)

I know it sucks about the pricing, but it's a risky proposition. I've been up for one week selling this stuff thinking people would be shooting me orders left and right, but I've only shipped two pieces to date.... Uh, go figure.

Not trying to flame, it's a valid question. Hopefully this justifies the price.

Dont worry your not flaming.

When i pick up my 55 i am going to recheck all of the seals.

I think your orders are slow because these are not viewed as crittical parts. Kinda like a pre-buyers remorse thing.
Perhaps everyone wants to run the risk of mildew more rust ice damage. Agreater chance for dirt and bugs to get in. Or perhaps that 3M wheather stiping made for the house is working ok for now.

Just give it more time and all of your stock will be sold. If anything else you can allways sell to a vendor.

Just saving up; I just bought new springs, u-bolt flips, a bunch of other stuff, AND we're in the final throes of a full-on second story addition! So, it's on my list, just not that high up there... Keeping the pig running is priority, along with all those annoying house and utility and food payments...

Hang in there Seth and Jason. We're all hoping to win the giveaway. When that's over and we all see what the auction on eBay goes for we'll start calling in our orders. We may be cheap bastards but we know a good thing when we see it. We won't let your hard work go unrewarded.

I applaud your efforts and want that weatherstrip. I think your price is more than fair; a bargain. But more important is the simple fact that it is once again available! This is a Red-Letter day! A new era in Pigdom! Old parts are new again!I remember buying an OEM weatherstrip 12 or 15 years ago, so mine is not in terrible shape but could use replacing. I registered at your site yesterday...but was waiting to see if I win the free one...but I never win nuthin so I might as well just order it.

I got mine...
Makes a Pig look brand-new.
Even just slipped on, just to test the fit, no glue, looks pretty good.

Will the lower tailgate rubber be available? I am talking about the scrubber section on the top of the horizontal part of the gate: i.e. when you turn the key and are looking at the gate. The glass sildes through this section(sometimes in two halves)...

thanks

Hey Max,
I heard a rumor once, that 4Runner rear rubber would fit a Pig, Maybe it's time to investigate that...

does the four runner have the funky jog at the end in it though?

I don't know, never paid any attention to 4Runners before (except for brake calipers)

Max - I ordered a piece of WS from JC Whitney that should work in that place. My pig is at the body shop for the next few months, so I have not had a chance to put it on yet. Looks almost exactly like the original profile (or at least what was left of mine).

Btw, couldn't get an answer on the 55-list about this thusfar:

Does "earlier model tailgate WS" indicate that it will not fit a "later model" 55?
Or is it just better than the later ones, even factory back then?

And: is early/late just based on small/large tail-lights, turnover date 9/77?

Please educate me, I have never heard of WS-differences in this context before....neither metal- nor rubber-wise (at least not of the relevant upper part).

The WS I offer will fit both late and early model '55's. Toyota changed the design, but I don't have pics to show you the difference. The changes are around the area where the top edges of the tailgate come in contact with the bottom portions of the WS I offer. Shoot me an email at seth@pvcruisers.com and I will send you a photo-chopped pic to highlight the area in question.

I'll offer you this grantee. If my WS doesn't fit and function on your FJ-55, you can return it and I will reimburse you for the amount you spent. How's that sound? ( And I truly mean it) We are neurotic about making quality stuff. Otherwise, why make it?
