So. 3/8" rope from Amazon came in, 80ft in orange...
Here's a pic of the rope with the thimble for the hook or shackle:

So, ~ 7" inches of rope buried in the return. That'll change once I've made up my mind whether yo have a thimble or just a loop. The thimbles I have won't work with my soft shackles. I'm leaning towards a loop.

Haven't gotten around to the winch rope (and still need to paint the drum...), but I've been making soft shackles from 1/2" Chamazon UHMWPE rope. I wanted a few longer ones. The knot in each case is a button knot (instructions from the interwebs since I can't remember after making my first set 3 years ago), tightened with a Marlin spike , and here's my setup for further tightening :hillbilly:

Is that X-Bull rope? I recently bought the same orange 3/8” x 100’ from the ‘Zon for my M12000 and it had almost 14” of splice.

What I got is called 'ZESUPER'... it's on the truck now, using the thimble/hook combo from the old line. Mounted the new rope with a Bubba Rope Grabber, which is a little bit easier to do than the line lock I've used before. Can't speak to functionality since I don't have any pulls on it, actually I haven't gotten around to tighten it to the drum, either.
What I noted is that all the Chyneema ropes I got from Amazon recently - one 3/8" called 'FieryRed' which I used to make an extension, and the 1/2" yellow one above that I used for making soft shackles - are a lot stiffer than the stuff I used in the past. Almost feels like there is a coating, not sure whether that's a good thing. I'm wondering whether I ought to step up to 1/2" for the 12K winch, and move the 3/8" to the Ramsey 9.5.

I would have bought 1/2”, but didn’t see any when I was looking. This one is 23,800 breaking strength which should work for what I want. To be honest, I’m seldom pulling myself out of situations, and more often pulling a deer or moose up a hill;)
