Looks like there was a mess in that block. Hopefully it was contained there. Mine was a mess that took a lot of work to clean up. I have run it with a coolant filter since I got it going and when the head came off this last time the coolant in the engine had no suspended rust. The Isuzu waterpumps are rebuildable. I have a Amazon waterpump on the shelve that I did not put on mine after reading about one failing taking out a rad..... :/
Bringing this build thread back from the ashes!
This truck has basically sat for the last couple of years. The stars finally aligned and I have blown most of the dust off of it and I will start posting up details regarding the swap.
The truck was running when parked and started right up after putting a good battery in it and priming the fuel system.
I have run about 20 gallons of fuel through it and it is getting about 18mpg in mixed driving.
I don't have the CompuShift running the transmission. I need to go back through the installation make sure it is all correct. I will post up details about that in another post.
I have just been shifting the auto manually.
It takes off well in 1st but is kind of a dog when you shift into 2nd. Second to 3rd is fine. I haven't had it in overdrive. It has been so long since I drove it with the 1fz, I don't recall how it was going from 1st to 2nd in stock form.
As of right now the engine is running on stock fueling and the HE221 is only running about 15lbs of boost.
I am going to continue to put miles on it to test reliability and iron out some of the bugs, try to improve some things I don't like.
It seemed appropriate to include a video of it running.
In the video it is idling around 700rpm and I rev it up to about 2500-2700 a couple of times.
Thanks! It felt good when she fired up and then sat there puttering away!
Here are some pics of my momentary ignition button/switch. I initially used spades to attach to the switch by cutting one half of the spade off but they didn't work very well. I could tell that longevity would be an issue. They didn't take well to being manipulated and bent. I was thinking of using pin terminals but I didn't have any so I ended up tinning the wire ends which I think is even better. I wanted to be able to unplug the switch if needed so I added in some crimp on wire terminals.
Man, this is good stuff. I’m getting closer to beginning my swap. Same as you except I’ll use A442. Another member Josh (Coog) is local to me and doing the same one as well, A343 in his case. He will use a 4BE1. Same swap for the most part though. Glad to see it’s running wel!
