It is a solid black wire. It is bundled with the wire that goes to the starter (not on the same circuit). Where the factory wire protection sleeve ends, this wire pops out and goes directly to the back of the distributor.

Factory did not have a tach and my tac is attached to the negative of the coil. THis wire is attached to the little stud coming out of the side of the distributor where the condenser attches its wire to and the points wire attaches to inside the cap.

wires

on the pos side of the coil it may be as above with one wire from the terminal on the start solenoid that is hot with the key in start--that gives a full 12vdc during start and 0vdc when the key returns from start to run (IGN) position.
A second wire run from the ign goes through a ballast resistor which reduces the voltage to the points once it is running.

that would explain two wires but who knows? I did see one guy who had a fuel pump running off the coil--not a good idea IMO.

you could check this probably from the ign fuse with as light or a meter.

As for pushing a full 12 volts with the ignition, that is bypassed as my keyed switch burnt out a long time ago and I start the rig with the key in the on position and a toggle in the dash. Works great for bumping the motor to get over a rock or what ever.

I noticed that there is a small current going through the wire (wrench got a spark) but not a full 12V. Well, guess if it isn't breaking anything and it has been this way long before I had it, better leave it. Strange that it has power even when the igniton is off.

Found a distributor picture. My problem is i have a 1969 landcruiser and the condensor wire was just sitting there not connected to anything. Where do you connect the condensor wire to? its a green wire?

Matt

Here is a pic of my distributor what year do i have? Also the green wire was just flopping around will where I put it work?

PLEASE HELP

Also not connecting the condensor will it cause it to cut out at higher rpm or stumble? What does it do.

Thanks

Matt

If you want to stay "old school", get Pertronix (or equivalent). There is something to be said for more reliability, better economy, and performance.

I've got a similar product with my 350. It's made by CraneCams, has a rev limiter, and never needs adjustment. If it ever fails, I've got a spare set of points that I can drop in.

It's not a slippery slope to a FJC.

Well i just want to know where that green wire goes with points.

And also what the knob does on the side of the distributor if its just adjusting base timing or overall timing.

Matt

Don't know about green wire.

Knob adjusts base timing to adjust for lower octane gas.
