I have noticed that my asian hubs on my 62 seem to be exactly the same as the hubs on my 4runner. Only difference is the cruiser has manual lockers and the runner dosent. If I were to upgrade my cruiser ones could I bolt the asians on my 4runner?

This 4runner does have ADD. I noticed on the last front end rebuild I did the diff has alot of tension in it. Since this is a DD I think it could net me a few MPG.

I think I saw a thread about this at one time, but search returned no results.

thanks -nate-

Nope, solid axle trucks including land cruisers have 30 spline axles. The IFS trucks/4runners have only 27 spline axles. You can tell the difference of a 30 spline hub from a 27 spline hub by the rotating tab of the hub. 30 spline hubs have more of a tab, 27 spline hub tabs are flush with the hub body.

I did not count the splines, but that would have stopped me very quickly if the hubs would not fit. Wonder why toyota would have a 3 spline difference between the two, dosent make any sense to me.

Does anyone have a set of manual 27 spline hubs that would be willing to sell. How about a internet store where you can get them, like hte used cruiser parts site, but for ifs toyotas.

how are you going to "upgrade" a Toyota manual hub? there isnt a "upgrade available... the after market hubs come nowhere near the strength of the factory Aisin hub period. are your hubs not working? did you break one? then why the up grade?

the ealry IFS fron t ends use this hub you are looking for- FWIW the lancruiser and mini truck solid axle trucks use the same hub

Arnt warn manual lockers the thing to have? See I come from jeep world so cut me some slack. The entire hub assembly on my cruiser was slaughtered by an ass hole mechanic before the vehicle came into my possession, only a pic would do it justice. Looks as if a huge hammer beat the hell out of it. Many dents. What I would do would buy brand new parts for my cruiser and take the old ones for the 4runner.

My cruiser gets the new stuff always.
However my idea was shot down when i was informed that they do not interchage. The spline count is different.
Could someone post pics of describe the difference in IFS and solid axle manual hubs please.
thanks-nate-

The differences are hard to pick out... Most of the insides are slightly different (just enough so that not much is interchangable) and the dial looks a little different as mentioned. And the spline count.

I have one IFS hub I'd be willing to sell you, I rebuilt it a few years ago, so it's ready to go on. However, 2 of the small bolts that hold the dial on are broken off in the holes... and I'll have to see if I have the rest of the bolts around somewhere. (I put 2 phillips head machine screws in to hold it together for some reason.....) Send me a PM if you want it.

Yes they are one of the best for enhanced carnage! The are made from cast alloy, don't use cone washers to mount, so are mounted much less securely. The Aisin's are steel, more compact and much more solid.

This is the type of carnage that you can look forward to with Warns!:D

I have been lead to believe that warns were very good. Now I know better, thanks for showing me the devistation to those. Were those on your Rig, or is that just a pic you found?

2nd gen fan- thanks very much for the offer, but I need 2. Not to shure I would like one with 2 broken bolts. I would be grateful to know who are the best people to deal with over the internet for 4runner parts.

A buddies FJ40, it launched the debris (hub parts) into the rocks!:D

I helped my uncle jim ( see coco's link ) restore a classic power wagon. That thing is of epic size and guess what it had. Warn manual locking hubs. I said to my self, if this thing has them they must be good. After many hours of working on it, it became apparent that its front axle was smaller than the one in my cruiser. Funny because these things are former gov't vehicles, so I would expect only the best.

I saw one with a slant six, must be slower than s***. Think your 2nd gen 4runner is a turd, it must be horrible. The yellow one on the website had a build 360 I believe.

your a power wagon fan?

I can see why they slanted it. Looks very easy to work on. The exhaust is not directly under the intake stuff. The starter looks easy to get at. A good design, but I would like to know what you could do to a carb slant six.
