I thought I would start here since I am running pick up knuckles on my FJ40 axle. I have a 1" master, dual diaphragm booster, the larger 4Runner calipers and late FJ40 vented rotors, but my front brakes don't stop worth a darn.

Does anyone know of a conversion to larger piston calipers? Maybe Monte Carlo calipers? I know there is a conversion for FJ40 drum front axles, but how about disk axles? Anyone know of something? My searches have drawn a blank.

Thanks

I know they are used on the rear. I run them :).

The GM metric calipers have a larger piston area then the Toyota ones. You can also purchase 2 3/4" calipers.

I have a nice firm pedal. Too firm actually. I have to push really, really hard to stop. There is no air in the fronts.

monte's are usually used on the rear.

Usually the case is an air pocket thats in the system that cause's your symptoms.

I believe that indicates the master cylinder is too large. Try a smaller bore one. Think about the hydraulics, it will make sense.

Also, are you sure the booster is working properly?

My booster works well. I usually have 18inHg at idle so it could be better if my engine put out more vacuum...

I figured if the larger caliper idea doesn't pan out I would swap to a smaller master.
