I have the stock height option and used oem shocks. I guess I need to call them to make sure something hasnt changed since I bought the springs.
Stock are ok. But anything more could be an issue. Reading some have put the 1.75" spring on a stock shock

Spoke with a Dobinson rep, and recommended not to install their springs on an OEM shock due to possibility of over extending it.
I am curious what the compressed and fully extended length of the OEM shocks are. I wasn't able to find it searching, but I will try again.

EDIT: of course, I find it as soon as I type this: Compiled 80 series suspension component spec thread... shocks, coils & more. - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/compiled-80-series-suspension-component-spec-thread-shocks-coils-more.1026595/

It looks like the stock fronts are: 13.9"/23.7" front, and 14.2"/23.8" rear.
Compared to Dobinson Nitro shocks for 0-3" lift: 14.57" / 24.72" front, and 15.04"/ 24.8" rear.
Compared to Dobinson IMS shocks for 0-3" lift: 14.76" / 24.92" front, and 15.74" / 24.96" rear.
So they extend about an inch further.

I am curious whether the IMS shocks would be too stiff for my rig -- they do state that they are more suited to a heavier rig. I have added weight to the rear with tools, fridge and a drawer, but my front has maybe seen about 30 lbs added total..

Hahaha! He’s full of $hit and trying to sell you shocks. Springs have to be longer than the shock travel, otherwise the springs will just fall out.

Can I add on to this thread without being too offensive?

Noob FJ but not Toyota truck owner here. I'm looking for soft sprung and well but not harsh dampened FJ80. I am OK with stock height but would prefer to go around 2" taller. Any suggestions? I've had a few non-standard setups on things from my WRX rally car to various off road vehicles like an old Sportsmobile and LR Defenders. The "roads" where I am suck big time even on the one main paved road and side roads can be similar to light crawler trails. I'd prefer it to ride softer like many side-by-sides. Ideas on components?
