I figure it was good that it happened when it did. By the looks of everyone getting a look under the front, it would not have been too long before someone decided to get a look at another angle from behind one of the front tires or walk around to the back to get some tools out of the box.

they didn't clean up the broken glass? that's just rude.

Actually while that video is pretty funny/sad at the same time, it is also very dangerous. If people were walking behind, or like said above underneath it could have meant a chopper ride. I would hate to think of kids playing on the hill below.

OK I have to ask,

Why would anyone go wheeling without a good working e-brake? I use mine all the time, and If I'm on an incline that I think the e-brake won't hold, i'll just shut the truck down and leave it in gear, than get out to have a look.

Here's a leason to both vet's and rookie wheelers. Make sure your e-brake works real good. It's not hard to fix if broken, but sure would be a pisser if this happened. Can you immagine if they left one of the kids in the truck or worse, a couple of kids riding in the back.

(shaking head)

I can get mine working for a few weeks, then it's useless, but I don't ever trust my ebrake, when I exit my truck while wheeling, I always turn it off and leave in gear, unless I can drive over a rock or stump that will hold it back on mild inclines.
Cheers,
Deny

Never seen it creep when in low gear, but when it is that steep, I don't really want to get out. I still shove a rock under when I leave it in gear, just incase it does creep though.

He'd have been better if he did what we were all told to do in drivers ed. turn the wheels!! That way you could aim it for a nearby tree before getting out (so long as the hill is not too steep that going sideways would cause a rollover)! If the tree was big enough you might crumple the bumper but that would be preferable to a rollover. That truck got some speed up before it hit a boulder and flipped.

At least it wasn't a 'Cruiser!!

that big ole chevy probably was an auto. So he probably thought it was safe in park. My dad smashed up a bronco that way. They can pop out of gear.

No idea why you guys have trouble keeping an emergency brake working...... If you use it everytime you park, they always work. If you use once a month it will fail.

I use an emergency brake everytime. Even in auto's.

First of all I think it is healthier for the trans/ujoints. Pull up somewhere and set the emerg brake before letting off the normal brake. That way the weight is on the brakes not the driveline.

There's a big difference between earlier 40 vs 60 series ebrakes. Toyota changed the design on the BJ's and got the ebrake off the drive shaft and into the drum brakes. My 40's ebrake never works properly, and Deny like stated, it's good for a couple of weeks after adjustment. My 60... if the ebrake is engaged your not moving, if you are moving your not going to break anything, (like shearing the studs off the ebrake housing). Leaving a diesel in gear is a good idea, I don't think it would ever creep. A SOA, V8 with 38" Swampers will definitely creep in gear, it will also creep over large wheel chocks. Not enough compression on most SBC to stop the creep.

The Safari/Patrol has the driveline e-brake. Most GQs and GUs (Y60s & Y61s) have 4 wheel disks, so there isn't much of a choice. Now, I have only had a years experience with it but it doesn't move a mm even on the occassion when i forget to take if off and try to go. Also, I have never read about anybody having issue with them. Like any brake, if they are maintained they work well and if they are not maintained then they don't work.
