thought I would share my experience. I usually ‘exercise’ my sun/moon roof, after i did a thorough cleaning of everything, when i first got this machine. Everything worked well, but i greased everything, cleaned out the drains, the usual.

Today, i kicked it into ‘vent’ mode, and it lodged stuck… almost a if something was jammed. Ok. no rain next few days, time to sort it out…. but i wanted to fix it asap.

It’s kind of cool how easy the glass is removed.

So i did my best to clean all of this:

There are a few things that slide up and down this track…. if you get stuck opening the vent, it’s because there is a bit of corrosion on the track. After taking out the 4 10mm bolts, to remove the glass, i started soaking everything…

Then i used a brass brush to clean the corrosion off of the spot you can see here:

there is a piece that you can see in the photos.. that slides on the aluminum track.. i bet this is a common issue.. i soaked this as much a possible, and even tapped it back and forth a bit, with light taps. this part has to move easily, it seems, or the motor just locks up, trying to push it.

after soaking this, I got full action for everything.. then i did my best to clean it, and rub off the corrosion on the track.

If you let your sun/moon roof (or whatever anyone calls it) sit idle.. it might get stuck next time you or your wife or buddy, accidentally tries to use the light, and hits the ‘retract’ button instead!.. Ask me how I know.

I guess i would say, if your roof glass works.. exercise it, and grease everything up sometimes.

There are worse jobs on this truck...like replacing the starter.
