I was thinking about fitting the bottom storage section of my center console with a nice bass speaker. Anyone tried this?

I had thought about puttin the LX console in with it's sub. I don't have the wiring diagram for the LX sterio unit, but I'm sure you can make it work with the LC head unit and probably even an aftermarket unit.

I don't think you'll get any sized speaker to fit into the LC console.

I don't use mine, it is very weak.

I put mine in the rear gate. If I was going to use the center console for a sub, I would design something more substantial than the stock LX setup.

I am toying w/ the idea of making it a center channel speaker, & adding a 5.1 decoder. ;)

You can try......I spent hours and well days building a box to put an 8" in the stock location.....had a good sub, a great amp, but it was disappointing....

Finally bit the bullet and just put a 12" in a q-logic box, the only way to get real bass.....it is centered up against the 2nd row firing backwards towards the hatch, and is centered between two legs of a cargo/pet barrier that fits it perfectly....added a couple of handles, and strapped it down, it is also right between the floor tie downs.....came out pretty good....

Sounds good, missing some mid-bass......Anything smaller just wouldn't do IMO...

Cruisin,
You mention having a switch on my main power cable. this makes sense and i had thought about doing it but i bought a complete amp wiring kit and they did not include a switch or say anything about it. nevertheless, it sounds smart and might do it anyway.

YOu need to run a switched on power wire. Period. Otherwise your amp will stay on all of the time.

That should be the total opposite, neither of my amps will not turn on at all without a remote lead connected.

I must have used the wrong terminology...

Your deck has a wire that will turn your amp on and off. All you have to do is connect it to your amp. This is the only right way to do it.

No offense, but why are you trying so hard to ignore this? Try the forum at caraudio.com or better yet, just read the owner's manual.

After all the time you spent on this, running one wire and doing it right would have taken less than an hour....

Good Luck.

Carolina,

I got it all connected up the right way. everything is good. i just want to know why i need a switch on the main power cord from the battery to the amp? Manual says nothing about it and neither did the wiring kit, just asking...

READ switched on power WIRE. Not a switch on the power wire. He's talking about the "acc wire".

As I just did this in my '97, you need 5 wires to the amp. Battery + and -, remote turn on, and the L & R signal cables. Without those, no go. Your deck has a sub pre-out setting -- make sure that is enabled. And then of course, the speaker connections...

It's also a possibility that the pre-outs are malfunctioning? You should look into that as well.

As for a power switch to the amp -- use the remote turn on and wire the amp the "right" way -- you'll avoid issues and confusion down the road.

I ended up constructing a custom box/amp rack that mounts up on the passenger side fender well and takes the place of the body cover. It houses a 10'' diamond audio sub and an Alpine MRV-301 amp... the whole setup blends in with the body great, but I did lose the ability to have my passenger side 3rd row back there. I used the 3rd row brackets to bolt and secure the box.

Combine a single 10 with replacing the old door speakers and you'll end up with a sweet setup. I am totally happy with mine.
