I was moving my 1980 FJ40 very short distance in the yard and was surprised to find it stuck in gear, the gear stick would not budge. I had put the gear box into reverse and travelled backwards, but when I depressed the clutch to stop, I was unable to get out of reverse gear and into neutral. I had to turn the engine off and cycle the clutch peddle a few times, then It came out of reverse easily. I tried to repeat the problem by driving forward and backwards with first and reverse gears and had the same issue, this time in first gear as I drove into the garage. Again, engine off, cycle the clutch peddle and it moved into neutral.
Any advice very welcome. Is this a gearbox or clutch issue? It’s a three speed gear box.
