Recently ive had a strange sound coming from somewhere in the tranny, but only when Im in neutral and have the clutch disengaged.

It sounds remarkably like valves tapping, but I checked that and narrowed down the sound to the tranny. I cant feel any vibrations in the transmission and Its only when the trannys in neutral.

5th gear has some whine to it, but otherwise the tranny is fine. Any ideas on what it could be?

It only makes the noise when the transmission is in neutral with the clutch pedal out. It goes away when th clutch pedal is pressed down.

Funny thing is, Im the only one who can hear it without a hose stuck to the tranny/engine area... It just suddenly started one day. I got my self high centered the day before on a dirt pile, but thats the only wheeling ive done since the rebuild besides a few clay pits here and there.

The input shaft rides on one ball bearing at the very front of the engine, and a set of large needle bearings between the input and output shafts, if the noise is there in every gear but 4th, then it's the needle bearings and that's kind of a major deal. if the noise is there all the time except when the clutch is in and the input shaft isn't spinning, then maybe it's the front bearing. The front ball bearing can't be changed from the outside on the G52, or at least not on my dads, it has a snap ring on the inside, so you have to pull the front half of the trans housing no matter what.

The bottom line is, it's not a huge deal to open up a trans, you have to learn somehow! :D

Doesnt make the sound in any gear, just when the clutch pedal is 'out' and the trannys in neutral. 5th has a slight whine to it, but nothing to concern me... yet... Problem with learning now is, if i cant learn within the weekend, then im out of my DD

The pilot and throwout bearings are not supposed to be turning when the pedal is released.... It has to be on the input shaft, and if you can't hear it when you're driving, then it's probably not that bad yet.... as the input shaft is always spinning when you are driving.

The throw out bearing is not supposed to turn when the clutch is released. Well lets look at a merry go round then it should stop as soon as some one stops turning it. And the throw out bearing if sloppy would make noise when no pressure was on it but as soon as pressure was put on it it would stop, until it gets so bad that it slops around all the time.
