Another copper I work with has Hot Rod and Resto business here on the north side of Chicago. Windy City Rods and Restorations He and I got talking about the joys of working on old stuff when he mentioned he is negotiating a deal for a long term lease of a shuttered Chevy dealership. He's looking at over 35,000 square feet to house his business as well as renting out space for vehicle storage.

Now the other kicker of the deal, is that he "may" be inclined to allow folks to wrench on their rigs there as well. Access to the property shouldn't be an issue provided he's given enough lead time to get you inside.

Besides myself, who else here may be interested in a reasonably priced and located vehicle storage/wrenching facility within Chicago?

Maybe me

I have a line on a free fj40. But I have no place to put it. But I have to move on it within a week or so.

Can you define reasonably? Im interested in it as well, possibly just for the winter months. Would the wrenching of the rigs include air lines and a 220v hook up if i were to go steal a plasma from the plainfield area?? What part of the northside too?

havent you had a line on a free fj40 for the past 2 years??

After much deliberation, I have decided to pass on said free fj40.

If you want to pass on the info for the free 40, I'm sure we would be much obliged. :D

I'd even trade nice set of FJ60 Aisin hubs for the 40.

And to keep this on topic, I'd be interested in a 'closer' winter workshop if you know wat I mean. I love our wrench days in the southwest and western suburbs, but a shop close to home would be killer.

Hmmmm. I need a set of Aisin hubs and I have the title for said free cruiser.

although I did give the truck to the guy who is giving it away.

Well, the hubs aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so we can always start the negotiations. Heck, I may even just let the hubs go for nothing or a little shop time =. :D

Minor update...

The facility is located at River Rd and NW Highway (Rt. 14) in Des Plaines IL. The current plans are for my buddy's Rod & Resto shop along with an Automotive detail shop and body/paint shop. They would still have room for over 50 cars in storage. There are some details still needed to be worked out but it should be open for business in the next couple of months.

The plans also include access to your vehicle during normal business hours, a secured vehicle drop off lot, and access to some of the shop for short-term (2-3 days project) repair.

As more info comes in , I'll post it up.

I know of another place by clark and peterson in chicago that is about the same size and in the city if that deal doesnt go through. Looking to buy or rent the space?
