I noticed some deep scoring on both my front rotors on my 14 LX570. 95k miles on the car. The repair shop says the calipers are sticking and I will need new caliper rotors and brakes. Any suggestions on an upgrade or should I go with OEM.

Other than the scoring, is there any other symptoms?

To some degree, scoring is completely normal as contaminants and regular wear get into the pads. I don't see any irregular heat marks or frankly irregular wear marks on the disk.

When was the last brake job and how long has this set of pads lasted? Does this pad show elevated wear against the pad on the opposite tire on the same axle? That would be the tell tale sign for a sticking caliper.

I purchased it used with 35k and its near 95k So at least 60k miles on them

Both sides look identical so it doesnt make sense that both calipers would fail at the same time.

Turn rotors ( or get new rotors), get new pads. clean current calipers and check make sure no leaks at seals. If you have issue after this calipers can always be replaced later. If this is all something you can do yourself. If not get second opinion. I not sure I buy the sticking calipers.

It's not a single-pot sliding caliper so I'm not sure how it could be 'sticking'. It's not like there's a return spring that would pull the pads back. A frozen caliper piston maybe but that would be rare on the 200. Is the inboard/outboard wear the same?

Personally, I run new Toyota OEM rotors with each change. It's a $59 part vs a $25 rotor grind. Worth it to me to not have the extended down time, extra trip to NAPA, as well as start afresh with full rotor thickness.

Sidebar: Tesla runs Brembo brakes because they pull back slightly from the rotor eliminating the continuous drag giving them something like 12 additional miles of range. I'm sure that would equate out to at least 100 yards of additional range in the 200.

Thanks Ill get the car bad from the repair shop and pull a wheel to see what is going on with the rotors. Appreciate all the help and feedback.

Sticking calipers seems like a problem that is conveniently hard to disprove. On a vehicle not known for caliper problems.

I agree with others. Throw some new OE rotors on it (surprisingly cheap and among the best quality), new OE/TRD/high quality aftermarket pads, flush the fluid, drive it.

I just went through the same with my 2017 with 40k miles. I went to the dealership for pads, have the rotors turned and a fluid flush. The service rep said the bluing and scoring was too deep to turn.

The front exterior pads in the were almost completely worn, but the interior pads looked barely used. Granted, I’m not a professional, but it looked like only the front, exterior pads were doing the work which explains the weak braking feel, increased wear and bluing from heat. Certainly what you would not expect from 40k miles.

I replaced the front and rear pads and rotors with the StopTech Truck Axle Pack. I wanted Terrain Tamer, but unfortunately, I was growing increasingly concerned about the brakes. So far, so good.
