I got the bus wheel that comes with the First gen Toyota truck. Does anyone know if there is a later model Toyota with a better steering wheel that is compatible with the first gen? Or any other recommended swaps? thanks.

I know that a late 80's supra wheel will swap into a 2nd Gen truck, the horn even worked once I screwed the truck ring onto the under side of the wheel...

So if 1st and 2nd gen are compatable (I don't know if they are) there's another option....

Do you have power steering? If not a smaller wheel will make it a bit harder in turns.

Yes, I do have power steering. I read somewhere that I could swap a 4 runner wheel, I wasn't sure what years though. What's the supra wheel look like? Anything smaller than 15.5 diameter would be an improvement. Dimensions? Thanks alot.

I dont' recall the diameter, and dont' have the truck anymore, but it fit inside the 2nd gen truck wheel, which I think was maybe a little smaller than the 1st gen.... It felt like a race car with that wheel...... it is a race car wheel after all.....

I did have to clearance the steering shaft cover so it didn't rub.... I'm not to familiar with the 1st gens so I don't know what you might have to do.

There are a few pics of what it looked like here:

Dunno if it helps, but I have a blue steering wheel out of an '87 pickup, you can have it for the cost of shipping. It came out of a Turbo truck, so that's gotta be good for a few HP... ;)

PM me if you want it.

Thanks KLF. Everything about my truck is dirt colored so I don't think a blue steering wheel would be complimented well by it. Appreciate the offer though.

I never looked into it when I had my '80 pickup, but I'm sure that Grant Steering Wheels makes a wheel for your truck and an adapter. The wheels go for anywhere from $50-$300+ and the adapters seem to all be right around $50. Lot's of styles from chrome, black, carbon fiber, fancy, not fancy, really small, large and other colors as well. They do make nice steering wheels. Well worth it, I remember the steering wheel in my '80, that thing was bigger than the steering wheel in my 84 FJ60 it seems.

we'll yea a 10 year old grant is'nt going to look so good, the have lots of new ones for cheap and they are easy to install
