Has anyone found a smaller replacement steering wheel that fits the column of a 72 FJ55? I am adding powersteering and would like to shrink the steering wheel. At 6'4" I don't fit under the big stock wheel very well.

Thanks.

The spline count and diameter is the same for a lot of Toyotas. I run a mini truck wheel from a 79 on mine. It fits well, has a smaller diameter and a thicker rim and the old school T in the center.

Still has the annoying horn buttons on the spokes that beep at people when you palm the wheel.

I'm only 6', but unfortunately that seems to be my hight standing up or laying down. I H8 giant steering wheels.

Yep, know the feeling. 6'3". I used a Grant steering wheel from Monument car parts here in Livermore. I know there is a monument in Pacheco. I'm sure you can get them at other locatrions, but I know Mon. has them.
The setup allows the blinker cancel to work, so all is good.
Good Luck

Do you happen to know which adapter you used? What year is your 55?

Steering wheel kit

I talked to a Grant rep at the 4 wheel parts show. He said he could not recommend a kit, but that someone told him they used one for a 1974 Toyota Carina.

I bought the kit and though I had to grind a little metal off the edges of cap that covers the adapter and insulate the contact that goes from the column to the horn (otherwise everytime you turn your right turn signal on and turn right the horn beeps) it fit really well.

Now I have a 14 1/2 inch wheel and can actually steer without pulling the hair out of my legs.

Hope this helps.

BTW My pig is a early 1972 with the ignition on the dash.

Thanks for the follow-up! Too many threads here just die with no resolution... makes for frustrating searches. :)

Here is a shot of Sherman's new steering wheel, using the Grant Toyota Carina installation kit. Total cost was about $75 for the wheel and the installation kit.

Grant wheel adapter correction

:whoops:
I got a couple private messages indicating there was no 1974 Toyota Carina adapter.

The correct adapter is Grant Part number 4586. It is listed for 1972-1973 Toyota Carina and 1971-1975 Toyota Corolla.

Sorry for the confusion.
