Bringing back an OLD thread, has anyone shed anymore light on this steering colum clunk since 05'? I am thinking splines in the slip portion? Just came back from 4hrs of driving down basketball sized boulder scattered roads and this slight steering colum "clunk" about drove me f##king NUTS! Dont get his confuse with anything down river of the colum, It is in the colum for SURE!

I had a mild slow speed clunk in my steering column that I fixed by greasing the splines on the steering shaft. My rig is an 86 and does not have a grease zerk, so I had to take it apart. After I put the grease in, I could not get the splined slip joint back together because of the grease and air pressure. So, I drilled a small relief hole in the deep end of the slip joint to release the pressure. I really cured that noise now for several years. There is a post on this somewhere on the board.
Now, I have the notorius OME front end clunk which if much louder and more obnoxious.
