I have read several different post on power steering boxes for 55s. I'm lost, FJ60,Toyota PU, Scout. Can I get some pics from you guys of all 3 of these and your thoughts? I'm doing a high steer and don't know what direction to go.

we put in a j-20 sag box in Iron moose, but removal of the rad x member will be in order!
this box will push 37"s with no need for hydro assist!

it sorta depends on what you want to do with your rig in the long run...what kind of wheeling you want to do and what size rubber you want to run.
I think that the Scout box is the best fit on a Pig and will turn the bigger tires. My Scout setup looks an awful lot like Li'lJohn's, 'cause we used the same fabricator...

Thanks guys , your rig looks great. I am doing a spring over with 2" lift. 35"tires. I would like to use my stock column. I don't really want to cut my wheel wells to much, I realize that a little may be necessary . So what do your think my be my best bet?

I don't think you'll need to cut wheelwells at all to run 35s with an SOA...

You really don't need a soa and a lift. One or the other. I have a sag car box and hydro with 36s, but my experience probably wouldnt be a lot of help. Pics are in the little pig thread in my sig.

I love the hydro. It's rough on steering knuckles though.

I really appreciate the info , power steering is on my list this week however, looking closer at the F motor in my piggy the pulleys have only 1 grove that operates the water pump and alternator. Whats my choices , did Toyota Very make upper and lower pulleys with 2 groves for the F motor ?

Apparently they did cuz I have 2 groove pulleys on both my F motors. I can't remember if I had to get them from a later model or if they did indeed come stock
I run the Scout system, along w/ hydroboost & hydro-assist. I also use the stock steering column w/ aftermarket u-joints:

Hydro boost and hydro assist ... Can you educate me please . My experience has only been with power steering box to power steering pump. Former Chevy guy sorry

Ok I'm almost there, I went to my secret honey hole for Scouts this guy is crazy ! He has at least 100 scouts on his north 40 and isn't even in the parts business. Anyway, he will sell me a steering Box. I hunted around and a couple of question entered my mind 1) all the boxes were covered in grease is this from the pump overflowing that is positioned on the motor directly above the steering box ? 2) the belt grove on the pump looks like it takes a real thin belt. Should I use the scout pump or should I look for a pump of a chevy ? Would that work? 3) if I end up with a leaker steering box how difficult is it to re seal ? 4) why does this guy have so many dame scouts :)

There are at least 3 different pulleys that will fit an F engine. Not all were made for an F, but they'll fit. There are two different 2-groove pulleys, one with one wide and one skinny groove, and one with 2 wide grooves. Later 2Fs also had a 3 groove crank pulley.
Scout steering boxes are getting hard to find. The core charge at Napa, when I bought mine, was about twice the cost of the rebuilt box.

Crank or waterpump pulley?
