Hello everybody its me again wish I was helping more than always asking questions, I knew I should of got a manuel transmission any ways I have a problem in the mornings I will start up go to store to get smokes, shut vehicle off run inside and out all this in 10 mins time then when I go to start my truck the dash lights up but it is silent. I have replaced the starter with a kragen crappy as well as replace the ground wire. At this point I am frustrated it only does it at the same interval first shut off of the day then it starts fine after that as well as it will start after I let it sit for a few minites. Any help or advice would be appreciated thanks.

Sounds like ECU problems. This used to happen on my dad's old S10, it would run fine for a bit, then not start. The battery leads were fine, everything mechanical was fine, it was the computer brain-farting, kept burning up PROM chips off-and-on for a year or so until we replaced the ECU with a new one from the dealership.

Whats a prom chip is it called somthing else thanks brother for advice I had a spare so I just changed it out. Now that I have does anyone know the proper part number for 87 hilux with auto tranny with overdrive and etc as that is what mine is but all the research I have done indicates that the ecu I just pulled 89661-35070 is for a manuel tranny anyone know for sure thanks.

If I understand your problem correctly, you are saying that the starter is not doing anything at all when you're having the problem. The engine ECU has nothing to do with this, the system isn't that complicated. My first thought would be the contacts in the starter. Even though you say you put a new (reman'd?) one in, it's probably worth pulling it back out and popping the little cover off, take a look at them.

If all is well, then I'd suspect a wiring problem somewhere. Maybe it's in the ignition key switch?

even when it only happens at the same time everyday as well as the same spot I can drive for a longer time and it will turn over fine just first thing in mornings and same amout of time between start and stop.

Sounds to me like a temp related thing, IE You drive X minutes and the wires/connector heat up and expand to the point where it won't start. If you drive it longer then they heat up past the bad spot...

Next time try letting it warm up for 5-10 minutes before heading on your usual drive, see if that helps.

Or next time it wont start, get a jumper wire and hook it to where the small wire hooks to the starter, and press the other end to the bat + terminal, this will bypass all the small wire side of the circuit. (note, make sure it's not in gear when you do this!!!!! And the key will need to be on for it to start, but not if you just want to see if the starter will work.) If it works then you have an issue on the small side, and need to go through things.

The starting circuit isn't that complicated, but it is convoluted...

Also, Toyotas tend to reject cheap aftermarket Alts and Starters on principal...

Best of luck!!!
