Where can you find a starter motor for a 1kzte in the United States? I have been researching for replacement starters and cant seem to find any. would this be the correct Toyota part number for a starter for the 1kzte: 28100-67060?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

It’s not available in the US.

Options:

1. Buy parts to rebuild yourself
2. Find a auto electric shop to rebuild.
3. Contact Dave Stedman in Japan to procure.
4. Find a starter motor from another application that can fit.

Do not look at Megazip for that part number unless you're sitting down. I'll put a positive spin on it... it's in stock. Get it before interest rates go up.

I should have prefaced my post. My starter is not dead yet or having problems. I just wanted to know if there are good replacements and if there was a place I could buy a back up in the event it does go bad. I live pretty far away from anyplace that would rebuild starters and would most likely be down for a while if the starter went bad and I had to ship it out. I think I found one on eBay. However I am wondering if there is a Toyota kit for starter rebuild? I have seen parts here and there.

Do you have Dave Stedman's contact info? I am looking for a few other replacement parts for my kzj78. Or does he just do starters?

Thanks

I would highly recommend option 1 or 2

Buying a factory starter NEW with shipping across the pond will likely be around $750 give or take.... good luck!
If you ever need one for your HZJ76, I just purchased a brand new OEM 12v 2.5kw starter (28100-17061) for less than $350CAD delivered from toyotapartsdeal. Frankly I expected it to cost double what I paid.

Wow, that's not bad, especially considering the price of a new one for a little 4cyl diesel like the KZ or KD. I have never priced one out yet for mine, so this is good info. Thanks for sharing Doug! 👍

By changing the “nose” you can also install a heavy duty Cummins starter. That’s what did.

Which starter? Part #? Be good to make a note of this as well!
The truck is at home but I'm not. I'll try to get the info by tomorrow. 🙂

I know I looked at some Toyota starters that would have to be shipped from Japan for the 1kz and I am unsure if the price was correct but I saw some crazy numbers like over 1000$ for a starter. I hope it was just somthing with the currency exchange.

I know Toyotapartsdeal had a remanufactured starter for my 3fe powered land cruiser a few months ago for under 200$ if I remember right. I wonder if the starter you have would work on a 1kzte? probably not but wishful thinking.

On a 1KZ engine starter? I’m having a hard to believing this. The 4 cylinder engines has a smaller starter motor assy than the 6 cylinder engines.
My response was directed towards a couple of post (Douglas S & Rigster) discussing a 1HZ starter, not a 1KZ.

Oh. Sorry. I misread your response.

Either way, why use the Cummins stuff when the OEM is readily available from any dealer for any 12v 1PZ/1HZ/1HD-T/1HD-FT/E for less than $275. No brainer.

Brand new Cummins starter sitting on the shelf (paid for) ……… Yep, it’s a no brainer.
(Same reason I’m running a Terrain Tamer alternator). 😊
