Spring plans for your 60/62?

Finally straighten out a hard start, wierd idle, carb issue I've been fighting, fix the E brake, fix oil pan leak, build a roof rack.

Big jobs coming after that are front axle rebuild, rear main and figure out the ticking noise that a valve adjustment didn't fix. I'm thinking the rear main and engine tick will may just wait a while. Toying with the idea of picking up a used 2F and rebuilding it so it's ready to drop in if my current 228K mile engine gives up. She still runs strong at the moment.

Or.....I hate to say it , but I've got the itch for an 80. The prices are getting good and they are a little better suited for long, out of state hunting trips. Tough to part with the 60 after putting some time and effort in her though.

Hopefully get the engine reassembled after a valve job, new in/ex manifolds, and a rebuilt carb by middle of next month. Next is rear-add-a-leafs, a little interior work, a new stereo, and then I'm just gonna drive it a while.

For the 40 I'll probably finish up welding the toolbox for the front bumper, and get some stocker wheels cleaned up real nice for it.

The 60 damn well better be done by then. I have to have new tailpipes bent and may end up throwing a TH400 in behind the 6.2L.

The 80 is getting new exhaust as well, and new bars on the sliders.

The 40 tub is coming off and being transferred to another frame. Then the rear is going 4 linky and coils with a buggified body.

Carnage Cruiser

1) Desmog-started last night.
2) TBI conversion-started last night.
3) Lifted(shckles) and locked in time for GSMTR.
4) Bumpers and sliders...hopefully before GSMTR :D
5) 4-linked w/Fj80 coils...coils sitting in basement.

Oh yeh! I need a radiator first. :flipoff2:

My spring plans also include washing and vacuuming. I also plan on finally installing the HFS suspension that I have had laying around since August/September. I am also going to do a tune up but that is about it. I was planning on new tires and a rear locker (Aussie or similar), but I just had my transmission rebuilt and that blew the cruiser fun money for quite a while. Good news is that it shifts better than ever and the torque converter actually locks up now.

Probably in this order -

Get it inspected. That includes upgrading the calipers.
4.11 fine spline diffs, weld the rear.
Q78 Swampers.
Winch and bumpers/armor. Maybe bob the rear.
Longfields and Aussie Locker in the front axle.
203 Reduction box or lower gears in the t-case.

I'll also be de-smogging and putting on a header at some point. Maybe TBI if I find that I need it.

Unless I win the lottery that should take most of the next year. But I'll be able to wheel it good as soon as I put on the Swampers :)

Some of you guys sound like real cupcakes. It's weally cowld hewe and I can't work cus my footies might get cold. Ha, I've been rolling around in the snow all winter. So far I've flushed the tranny, changed the belts, fabbed a battery tray, changed the exhaust from the cat back, put in a new (old) stereo, rebuilt my winshield washer system, and a myriad number of random acts of fixing. Yeah maybe I am pounding my chest a little, but keep in mind most of these things were probably neccesarry and I would love to have a solid mechanic do them in his shop. But I can't afford it and I can't find a mechanic that I trust. So, ten degrees and a slushy drive it was. Yuck! Any Hoo I have a bunch of other projects for spring and I am hoping to back burner the truck for a while. I think I'll just let her decide what to do next.

You think I'm proud of you for working on your truck in 10 degrees? Try an Iowa winter you fruitcake. 10 degrees is a fricking heat wave.

North of ya Doc. How bout South Wisconsin Lake Mendota High. To the tune of john denvers Rocky Mountain High. Lets be honest, we haven't had a solid winter here for a long time. Oh the times they are a changin'

Getting my man Rob Lassman the money to FINISH my HZJ60. And then bloody well driving the DANG THING!

Aye men.

My spring list just got longer. I have one leaky knuckle but nothing a re-greasepack wouldn't take care of...at least for a while. Then I noticed today that on the OTHER side, the wheel is sprayed with little drips ofgrease. I;m guessing that knuckle is leaking now too.

Looks like ti's time to make use of that extensive 3FE list tech archive. http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/axle/index.html

new rear top hatch

simple stuff -- switch over to synthetics

replace about 50 cracked/old parts with OEM stuff I've picked up over the past 5 months --

-- take the 62 back to the 'yota dealer, where they did brake-work for the OO -- they're too squishy, and the dealer offered to fix 'em fer free --

:D

I would like to have the 62 sold, but if not;

I am going to rebuild the drums and replace rear axle seals.
Pull carpet off of the tailgate, replace with stainless.
Replace driver seat.
New speakers all around.
