I bought these of ebay. I have used the valve shim tool, it worked great. Haven't tried the pump timing tool but quality looks good.

Tool hooks under cam shaft and pushes down on the edge of the lifter bucket depressing it enough to enable shim to be removed and installed.

The tool requires the use of a dial indicator (not Included).

You need a specific dial gauge to fit the timing tool. I’ll post what I use tomorrow.

So if it is the FST

You need a special dial gauge, this is what I use.

It all about the shaft on the dial gauge and it fitting the FST. It’s a kind of uncommon size in the USA, 7 or 8mm if I recall right.

I'm not sure that the mechanic said the factory setting does not work now. The 80 has been run for 30 years. The factory specification may not be applicable now.

If the engine won't run properly with the injection pump timing set to stock range, then the injection pump and injectors are WAY beyond needing to be rebuilt.
