Alright. Im sure im not the first to say it: the stock speakers suck. Now that i got that off my chest, i want to replace them. all of them. Except maybe the back two, i plan on putting a sub back there. Next issue: speaker depth. There isnt too much room to play with, so im trying to find something that will fit in there. i want good speakers that will bump, and give off good sound. i was also planning on putting in a
Kenwood DPX300U, and finally getting rid of the stock stereo that doesnt light up anymore. For the speakers i want to try too keep it looking stock, so i want to be able to cover it up again. So these are basically my questions:
1)What speakers are compatible with my 96 LC
2)Any other suggestions for audio upgrades? (trying to get good sound. lotta bass)
~Thanks~

The go-to stock replacement has been the Pioneer TS-G1844r. I'm happy with mine. Most users feel it's good sound for the money. Others can work, with the shallow depth available at the mounting location being the biggest limitation.

I think you meant the TS-G1644r? Just want to confirm?

Also, will these fit under the stock grills in all 8 locations?

Yea, i couldnt remember the name but i want them to fit under the stock grills as well

Yeah, I fat-fingered that. And TS-G1644R is, I think, an old #. What I used in my truck on the front doors was the TS-A1674R. I used the 4" TS-G1043R for the rear doors. You may be able to get bigger ones to fit back there, but I went for quick and easy. The thread I linked to discusses various options, too, IIRC.

No they won't fit anywhere except the doors. The dash tweeters are much smaller. Not sure about the rear top ones either.

6.5s will fit in the front if you're okay with an aftermarket grill. I used some pioneers and the grill is close to stock. You just mount them to the door. 5s fit in the second row mounted to the door. From there I superglue the stock grill over top and you can't tell the difference.

Yes, I'm looking for quick and easy direct replacements too.

To summarize:

Front doors: TS-A1674R or TS-G1644r

Rear doors: TS-G1043r

Front dash: ??

Rear Room: ??

Any other thoughts on direct replacements (using stock grills) for the other locations?

Is the sound any better when utilizing these with the stock head unit?

The sound would be better but not HD by any means.

the pioneers sound is fine. replaced my head unit JVC X80BT. one of the few head unit with dual usb outputs. tis 100% apple compatible.

the jvc is thusly powering the pioneer door speakers which indeed fit 100% in the door panels. i also removed the stock amp.

from there i gots a cheepo kicker amp off ebay ($15.00) and then built myself a small 6" enclosed sub (kicker cvt6-4 very hard to find now) and placed it where the stock sub was. there is room in the back side panels for box and my amp is under the driver seat so again completely stock looking and stealth.

sound wise tis decent enough for a cheepo amp and 6 " sealed enclosure - most definitely better than stock and i can still haul around all my fly fishing gear as i havent lost any space.

the back area (where the stock) sub is might be able to fit a 8" sub enclosure but again the response i get from my 6" sub is well enough. just enough low end bass to complement my upgraded speakers.

Polk DB651 and 6501's fit perfectly depth wise and sound awesome. Too big for those little stock grills though.

I'm driving them with a JL 75wpc power amp. Plus an Infinity 12" sub in a small box driven by same amp at 170w.

just checked my setup. aside from canibalizing the stock rear speakers / mounts i also had to trim 2 of the tabs on the pioneer speakers and then i bent over the remaining 2 in order to screw them to the black bracket. very secure as the bracket mounts to its stock place and the pioneers are thusly screwed to the bracket and then the grills mount to their stock points too.

Okay. so i think i am going to go with the TS-A1674R for the front and TS-G1043r for the back. Now, i want to put a sub in the back. at least one hopefully 2 12 inch subs. Recommenations on subs, and an amp? i am also going too replace the stock stereo. So help with:
1) New Stereo
2)Subs and amp suggestions
Thanks!

i tried finding the speakers, because they are discontinued, and it said that the rear speakers would not fit. (on amazon.) That was the only place i could find it. even though it says it doesnt fit, will it?

so i believe the new mb quarts reference series amps are thin enough to fit under the front seat. but likely would only be enough space for a 2 channel ( bridged mono) sub amp. otherwise you can do like me and find a slim cheep used old skool amp on ebay.

unless you plan to just put a sub in your "trunk" area - the back PS panel - (where the stock sub is) will likely fit a 8" sub at best maybe a 10" free air. it might appear to have some space but unless you are talking a truly custom fiberglass enclosure your everyday square speaker box will have to be slim (under 4" deep).

i was able to score a 6" (4 ohm) kicker sub nowadays it comes in 2 ohm - which is mostly used for a 2 speaker setup wired in "series" to thusly give you 4 ohms.

anyways so my 6" sub enclosure it only like ~.3 sq ft so it fits snug behind that back PS panel. completely stealth.

soundwise indeed tis only a 6" sealed sub power off a mtx 40x2 amp (again bridged mono to 80x1) - so sound wise it wont blow anyone away - but although i be middle age now - i still enjoy a little tribe called quest and the low end from my sub along with the upgraded door speakers sounds allright by my ears.

i have toyed around with the idea of going to a fully amplified 6 channel system. but then we are talking another 4 channel amp and then a eq / xrossover unit too - all which i dont have the space for.

so long story short (too late). i upgraded basic sound and the low end all while keeping everything stealth and not loosing any storage space

You can't really rely on the amazon fitting thingy for this type of stuff. I believe it should work. All you have to do is measure the diameter of the whole in the door to make sure it's 4 inches. I didn't know what to do with the old piece of plastic that was there i just threw it out with the speaker.

They went in quickly and sound very good. The Polk covers look better in person than any of the photos can convey.

I installed four in November '14 with no problems (oem head unit + bluetooth)

Would I neead a capacitor or anything else? Wouldn't that drain your battery? I like the setup bc it's cheap. But it may not be cheap if I have to add other things :/
