I tried searching but couldn’t find any threads easily.

I have new Evo Corse wheels and 275/70/18 K03’s and want to make sure I don’t mess the spare wheel up when mounting it.

Not concerned on clearance more protecting the wheel finish. This 5th wheel will get in the rotation.

The stock spare had some wear marks on it when I took it off.

Someone on one the FB groups just posted a spare cover they bought on Amazon, looks like a condom. I choose to freeball it. I’d rather not have moisture stuck in there for 3-6 months at a time.

I rotate every 5k and honestly a quick hose off and scrub and my wheels are fine. The side of the tire might have a mark or two but it will usually scrub off.

The other thing is your new spare will have more “tire” and less “rim” clamped down so less chance for the rim face to get damaged.
 
I ordered the US Plastics piece from the thresh linked above. I use a 5 tire on my Tacoma (with SCS wheels), and on my 4R limited and never paid attention so I’m prob over thinking it.

And like Dudem… said these tires have more side wall and going from 20” to 18” it prob won’t even touch the wheel, just the tire.

My 18" 2013 wheels, my 17" rock warriors, and my current 18" 16-21 wheels all disagree.

285s in all cases, so it's not like the tire got narrower

In my experience the only way to completely avoid contact with the wheel is to space the whole assembly down.

If that rubber is lying on the wheel face there’s a decent chance of grit thrown up from the wheel barrel getting caught in the gap and causing problems.

The spacer I talk about is the cutting board (or other sheet of polymer) glued to the crossmember trick.
