Since I'm not real used to going on 3000-mile, week-long, primitive camping trips in unfamiliar territory, I thought I would start a checklist of things that need to be in the truck when I pull out of town.

Didn't want to post this in the main trip thread because all the guys familiar with doing this will probably just laugh! But maybe us southern-folk can get some use out of it.

See the attached quick and dirty PDF...I'm sure there's lots of stuff left off. By all means, post up with comments, additions, deletions, etc. Or just post up to make fun of me making the list...!

On the clothing part I would definitely have rain gear both pants and jacket, and a warm jacket. All my underclothes are also NEVER cotton! Lightweight wool socks and synthetic fiber boxer briefs = two days a piece before "having" to clean anything. Wool and synthetic won't get all stinky! And they dry faster when they get wet...

Man I hope my CCW shows up in the mail! Took the class almost 6 months ago!

Pretty sure you will want a couple different pairs of boots/shoes, with one being waterproof. I always have a my "everyday" shoes, hiking boots (waterproof) and one or two pairs of around camp sandals (Keen, and Birkenstock).

Not sound too tree hugger, but maybe reusable utensils and plates and stuff? At the least, less trash to haul around!

I am bringing my water filter (never used) also...Maybe I won't have to lug around so much water!

Good list! I printed it off for help with my list!

It's always good to have a check list. Rain gear is a must in the mountains, thunderstorms move in quickly. The guys at the FJ Summit have been getting wet. You might also want some type of tarp for your tent footprint. You can also use it to cover your stuff during the day.
Add bug spray and sunscreen. We don't have a lot of bugs here, but we do have mosquitoes and the sun is much more intense out here.

I don't think you want any hot beer :flipoff2:

I was going to ask about bugs....especially ticks and mosquitoes!

Thx for the feedback guys. Good tips.

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD, and hopefully approved by the NSA.

For those of us who live in the south and cannot stand the summer heat...this is going to be the best trip ever!

Cross posting this just in case.....

If any of you Georgia guys can deliver me some Sweetwater Georgia Brown Ale, or Sweetwater Blue, I'll gladly trade you for some of Colorado's finest.

Had this at some bar in ATL then again at the airport. Really, really good brown ale. Never had the Blue, but that looks good too. Great logo also!

no worries, sweetwater is definitely on my list.

Awesome! What type of beer do you like? Colorado is literally the mecca for micro brews. A lot of stuff is only sold in state and is top shelf. I'll pick you out something nice....

I would like to taste every single Wheat beer the has to offer! I think there's an app for that...

Ticks are a non issue, especially where we'll be. I think it's worth mentioning that you guys shouldn't overpack. Be comfortable on your long drives and save the weight. This is just a cool gatering just outside of town. You don't need water filtration systems and backcountry gear. 2 of the 3 nights I just spent there were primitive camping. Nothing around, over 12,000 feet and I didn't have much. I had some food, water, a tarp, propane grill and 1 bottle of propane, sleeping bag, camp pillow, rain gear, camera, 1 pair of sneakers, 2 pairs of flip flops, a hoody and some extra socks. Bug spray, sunscreen, toothbrush, camera, camp plate and camp utensils. And fishing gear.....and my dog. If I forgot something, I could have driven to town and picked it up. Everything I had packed up into 1 small container. I like having a tarp to hang off the back when it rains. I'm too cheap to buy an awning with sides.

In our case with this event, whatever you forget, someone else will have for you to use. Just come and enjoy this beautiful place!

With all the beer being hauled, I think we all will have to be a little minimal with our stuff!

LOL, sounds that way.

I think the bulk of my planned loadout is roadtrip contingency based.

We are now looking at shifting our timeframe to add a day and make a run up Pikes Peak. This is highly kid dependent. If they are sleeping the 100 will be rolling. If they are screaming the 100 will be stopping a little early that day; or it will be rolling as I yank the eject handle! :flipoff2:

I'm pretty much at the mercy of getting my ride back from ACC and getting my small business ready for me to be out for a couple weeks. THAT my friends is brutal...
