I am currently trying to plumb my OBA set up and have been looking for air hose, but can't find anything good. Lowe's has some cheap looking stuff by the foot, and while Fastenal and Grainger's both carry Goodyear hoses, they only sell it in bulk. I've found that sourcing this stuff outside of the off-road/low-rider suppliers saves at least 50%, so I'm trying to avoid them.

I just did this and used the cheap PVC hose for all the under-the-truck stuff. I figure it will do the job. Currently I have a decent rubber leader hose that handles the heat from the compressor better - need to upgrade to a brainded stainless one soon.

Anyway - to answer your question. Harbor Freight has the Goodyear hose - buy a 50' roll - use about 20-25' plumbing the truck and then use the remaining length as your working hose. You could also order from McMaster-Carr at www.mcmaster.com

HTH...

Check McMaster Carr. They will have high pressure and high temp air lines for running in the engine bay and underneath the truck. They carry most sizes and colors and can be purchased by the foot.

I saw some at Harbor Freight tool the other day when I was in there. They had long lengths of Goodyear hose. May be worth checking into if you have a local store.

hose or tube? what size? 1/4"? we sell tubing where i work.

Hi Iggy,
Does the tubing they use on big rigs work well for 120psi plumbing for an OBA tank and compressor? I'm using 1/4 NPT fittings.

What size tubing do you recommend?
How well does it stand up to abrasion and heat?

Air brake tubing should be good for 125 PSI. I use it for my OBA system, but I'm running only 100 PSI. Mine is used downstream from the York compressor about 4 feet connected to a manifold.

We use type "B" Nylon tubing on our motorhomes. That is what I plan to plumb my OBA with. It has a working limit of 150psi but the actual minimum burst strength is 1000psi.

The intended temperature range is from -40 f. to 200 f., it very abrasion resistant. Don't run it where brake fluid can get on it though, and keep a minimum of 2" radius for bends to prevent kinking.

1/4" should be good for most oba stuff. all our tubing is parker, which has a working rating of 150psi. stands up fine to heat. abrasion, as well as any of the top air tubing, but many run it through loom.
