Yeah, although I haven't actually purchased a car from Carmax before, I have talked to them a few times and know people that have bought from them. All good experiences. I've seen cars that they sell and they're all top notch. Thanks for the look-see! Can't wait to hear back!

Posts like this one seal the deal for me. I am a former TTORA (Toyota Tacoma Owners *somthing* *something*) member and loved wheeling my Taco.

I wanted something a little more substantial with a solid front axel that didn't require a engineering degree and 10,000 dollars. I looked at Discovery's then read posts like yours. Friends of mine have owned Land Cruisers and loved them. Just have to marry a gas pump to own it though =(:)

Yeah, the Disco gives me about 12MPG around town on a good day. At almost $3.00/gal. I need to roll the fuel costs in with the loan! ;p

my 1996 80 series, with the ARB bumper, winch, 285's, and 2.5" OME got 14.5+ on my last trip, at 75mph....

happy shopping ;)

I hope you didnt pay an arm and a leg for it. When I looked at Carmax's site earlier this week all of them were way overpriced. Without lockers and that mileage I would say $11-12K max.

I'm kinda gun shy about rust.

We typically see rust problems in Groveland MA 01834. The 80s in other areas of the world have zero rust problems.

:D

Whew! That's good to hear! I'd rather do a complete engine OH than touch up a rust spot. It's more of an art...

Sorry to report that there will be no report from me. Not for lack of trying.

I went...but could not locate said LX 450 on the lot. I suspected that they removed it once you gave them the go-ahead. So...I attempted to "get lost" in the back area where they hide all the vehicles they process...but I didn't do a good enough job looking invisible (no surprise for those who know me).

I spoke to one of the salesmonkies and was told that the LX 450 shows as having been sold and no longer appears in their updated inventory list.

Sorry.

If you want to call your Carmaxians and let them know that you're having someone take a look and they agree to let me in the back cage where they keep all the sold vehicles...let me know -- the offer to check it out still stands.

:)

As for rust...you're not likely to find any significant rust on a California vehicle.

Cool. When I bought my 4Runner it was between that, or an 01 Disco2 with 87k. I chose the 4Runner, and could not be happier, i see the car that i was going to buy at the dealership quite often, my 4runner has not had one single problem either.
You know what they say, If you want to look pretty getting there, drive a Land Rover, if you want to make it back, drive a Toyota. Not sure who said it first, but it was well put.

First, I want to thank you Doug for taking time out of your lunch trying to help me out! They sure moved fast getting it off the lot! They're supposed to call me within the next couple of days to let me know when it'll be here. Could take anywhere from one to three weeks. Of course, I'm hoping it'll get here soon!

Doug, you need one of those Harry Potter invisibility cloaks.:grinpimp::grinpimp:

Not nice!!

I own two vehicles that most of you Yanks would kill for.

A 1995 Landrover Defender 110 AND a 1990 HDJ81. Offroad a Disco is pretty good, but their problems sure are ruining Landrover's rep, come to think of it, all their present day products are lacking, except maybe the Defender, which you guys can't get there...

And David, good luck with the Cruiser, I'm sure you will notice a HUGE difference in performance and reliability. It's a pleasure to drive my cruiser where the Defender is more like work. I've driven the Disco too, nah, you're gonna love the Cruiser...

Thanks Gowyn. I sincerely wish the Disco was built better. It's a wonderful driving vehicle and quite comfortable. I thought long and hard about getting a later model Rangie to replace the Disco, but there are so many things about the Disco that have disappointed me that I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I hope the Toyota (Lexus) will be a much more positive experience. I feel good that it will.

We better hang onto our 80s. I smell a classic in the making (well, already made, but finally being fully discovered).

My condolences on owning a Land Rover.:flipoff2: You will find the Lexus/Toyota a far superior product.

I think Land Rover has a good design (in the Defender and Disco 1) but are severly let down in quality control. The 80/450 is as good, no heaps better in the design but are the market leaders IMHO in quality.

I had to find one on Ebay and have it shipped across the ocean! Very limited supply here but I am glad I did it and I love my LC!

Your doing the right thing...there's no comparison...

Stay on the good end of the strap, Drive an 80;)

Wow, that LC looks huge compared to the Disco! I am excited about my new toy. Still no word on it's ship date or arrival :frown:. Hopefully, I'll hear some good news early this week:bounce:.
