They're great in mild to warm weather. When it's cold out, the caps are a bitch to close because they're so stiff.

They produce scalding hot water in the summers, when one might not mind a cold shower. In the spring, they get the water tepid. They do come in handy, though. Just get a good quality one, as differing brands really vary in quality but not much in price. And don't put water to drink in it, as the bag will impart its flavor into the water, and they are susceptible to algae, which is harmless, but still unpleasant.

Dan...I have a brand new one that came with our shower enclosure that you can have...no charge :) . In fact I think I still have the first one I bought...and tried to use it once or twice...you can also have that one!

I have used them extensively. As long as you have direct sunlight they work great. The only real pain is getting it up high enough for a 6'3" guy to stand under. :)

If you are going to be in one place for several days I recommend setting up a pulley system.

Didn't work out?

We either are under tree canopy; moving from site to site (not enough time to get the water hot enough); camping in spring or fall when the sun angle isn't the best for maximum efficiency; I put the Helton heat exchanger on the 100 and we don't need it (this puts out some serious hot water now!).

So the plan is I get the solar bag from you. When it dosen't work out you mention the Helton to Mrs. Rusty. If it's not my idea she will probably go for it.

This could work.

I'm not cheap but I can be had. Price? One good draft IPA...Silver Peak, GB or maybe even the new franchise spot at the mall.

Better yet...if we ever get to do an overnighter together she can test the whole set-up out...that'll usually do the trick on convincing!

Just set aside some time for the High Rock Canyon trip. I'm trying to atone for over indulging over the Holidays, no more beer for a while. High Rock will probably be around the time I can drink a few again.

Believe it or not you can do this with the Camelback water hydration system, Used em in Iraq.

I belive it. I was considering using the 5 gallon jugs that de-ionized H2O ships in. They are black plastic to protect the water from UV exposure and very heavy guage material. Around here in the summer one of those riding on a roof rack all day would probably get hot enough to be uncomfortable.

If not enough sun for the day, you can always boil some water when you get to camp and mix it with cold to get the temp you want and pour it in the bag. We've done that when multiple showers were needed.

Onboard shower is goin in Bob..

those work okay.

But can kill you in the summer out at blackrock...

Currently funding for further Cruiser mods has been cut off. :frown: But I think I have it worked out with spressomon so the OB shower thing will happen eventually. It just needs to be her idea.

At Black Rock there are planty of hot springs, no need for anything else.;)

I have always wanted a shower after a dip in double hott Yuck lol

They can be nasty. The ones on Barney Reily are a lot nicer, rock and mortar tubs with a drain. The convention is you drain the tubs when you leave so they are ready for the next person.
Somehow I don't think the BLM would be Okay with anybody building something like that on the plya.

I use one for after surf on very windy days (it gets damn cold in the water on windy days). Of course, it is usually very sunny when I use it. Most of the time, the water is so hot that it hurts. Love it.
