Any of you has used any of the portable solar chargers for cameras, smart phones (i.e. iphone, evo4G, Thunderbolt.) or IPOD.

Im doing a several days solo bicycle ride and like to keep my cell phone charged...

Thanks in advance for any input...

I keep this PowerFilm l USB+AA l in the rig and have had great success with it in use with my cell and charging the supplied "AA" batteries for other devices.

Haven't tried them yet, but many people I've talked to like the Goal Zero products.

Let us know how you like it?

So far so good....
Right out of the box it recharged my crappy phone on about 2 hours...
It will be my power source for a two weeks bike ride..
But I foresee using it for backpacking as well..
Will report next month..

I have a Goal Zero-Nomad 7 Solar Panel. Works great for charging the cell phone and iPods. I bought it for hiking and camping. Great product.

Weather resistant... But what system really works well in foul weather?

I have had the solarjoos since it's release and I do like it a lot, I use it more for the battery pack than with the solar panel (airplane cell phone/tablet entertainment). The pack is huge which is great but as a result it takes forever to charge on solar alone unless you are constantly aiming it. I use the hole as a sight of sorts, use the shadow to aim it and move it to track the sun often. It's great for a long bike, motorcycle, or river trip as it can get a lot of coincidental exposure and it really is tough and waterproof. Definitely cool when lashed down on the raft and taking on water and lots of sunshine. It was $99 when I got mine, don't know if I use it enough to justify the current price but as android gets more energy efficient and functional as a GPS and camera the equation is ever-changing. Also a great GoPro charger. It is faster than most wall chargers with our smartphones, really dumps the juice when you need it to.

Oh, and the name is a little funny or offensive depending on pronunciation :grinpimp:

^^ Those are good news......

the fact it doesn't need to be covered or put away cause of foul weather makes it very appealing.....
