Firm, but absolutely early Saturday morning. No way to escape work the first couple of workdays!

Made my reservations (just in case) at Oceano Dunes SVRA (reserveamerica.com) for 3 days. I plan on leaving in the early afternoon Friday (11/3), and coming back on Monday.

Are we going to camp as a group?

Any interest in a Sat. night potluck?

Anyone else planning to camp Sunday night?

HA! It is SOOOOO dead out there in Nov, there is almost ZERO chance of it selling out. Also, we usually get there late at night and dont have to pay anyway! :D

Sure, that would be cool! Lets try to get as close as possible to the Nucleus of the event (pismo jims rented trailer and bon fire). Also, try to get next to SILVERCRUISER (David) he always has the best setup and food! :D

I usually take off around 5. I will check tide charts as time approaches - easier to cross the creek at low tide if it's broken thru the beach. It wasn't last year but had been the year before and it can be treacherous - in other words - watch someone else cross safely then follow their line!!!

Bring on the high tide, I hope it breaks through this year..:D

if hauling a trailer though I understand shooting for low tide

This year it was BONE DRY!

Year before was supposedly one of the highest ever and we crossed it in a stock FJ62 with no problems, was barely over the hubs!

Stop freaking out! :D

went through with a XJ with 31's about 3 years ago... was no big dealio.

hahahha i aint freakin'.... i'll have a snorkel on my rig anyways if i go

Oh yeah, in case anyone wants to know... .you can get a ticket for driving into the ocean to test out your fording equipment:) I called the BLM and the Ranger station up there and they both thought i was nuts... until they found out what type of vehicle it was.....I was going to take my Kaiser there to test.. see pic below :)

5am.. alright sounds about right.

Yeah ive been through that crossing before... it pays to pay attention to others and let them be the test monkey.

Yep - let a heep or a ford/chevy/dodge pickumup find the holes! :D

the crossing is a good place to spend some time having fun watching mallcruiser SUVs get stuck on the berms. Even last year when it was not very high. And there was a guy making some $$ snatching them up...

I just signed up on Jim's site.

I'm still debating whether to take Friday off and go up early, or to take Monday off and come home at my leisure. I'm leaning towards taking Monday off, because it's easier to get off work early on Friday, then it is to go in late on Monday. That maximizes my play time.:smokin:

I'm in for circling the wagons and group camping. Is anyone going up early on Friday that can stake out an area?

I'm bringing the "Taj Mahal" family tent and an Ez-Up type thing. I'd also like to make some kind of sign for the group to identify us. I was thinking of cutting out a longboard shape from plywood, painting it red with SoCal 80's in script. Any other suggestions? Has this already been done by another club?

I signed up also. Def. want to camp with you guys...it is the reason I am going.
zip ties work great for ez-ups also....assuming you have something to zip them to.

My plan is to go early Friday (could be late afternoon or evening). Less traffic for me to deal with since Im more North than you guys.

I guess we can finalize it when the date comes around for who is going to be there early to stake ground.

Dan, good idea on the surfboard sign.

last year, things started to go dead Sunday pm IIRC. On Monday, there was only 1 or 2 trucks left. Good if you want calm, not so much if you hate being by yourself and it's gray weather.

I think people tend to go earlier rather than stay later. Plus the locals are already setting up a day or 2 early.

If you don't like noise and commotion, I would suggest you camp quite some distance from the main camp. Gets a bit out of hand sometimes. Not so great for families with kids. But if you do camp out, be sure you're easily visible from some distance as there are a bunch of yahoos around who will barrel through the dunes in the middle of the night, while drunks as skunks...

I want the noise and commotion :D ... I just stayed for 5 hrs last year and missed the total experience.

Are you going Eric since you live so close?
