I have a slight dilema. I am bringing the wife with me and on our last camping trip we used the last of our wag bags. I was meaning to order some but spaced it. Sooooo... Anyone have any x-tras that i can buy, or know where i can purchase some around Pismo ? It would get me out of hot water, and make the Mrs. very happy. Any help would be appreciated.

MORE FREE PRIZES FOR SURF N TURF !!!

I've been busy today (more in a moment) but in the meantime one of the locals, Andy aka Matador was able to score some FJ Cruiser shirts, FJ cruiser hats, and (really freaking nice) toyota pens, retail of about $140 from our local parts guys at Toyota of Santa Maria.

We'll have a stack of his business cards, and he asked that we forward anybody to him for a generous discount on genuine Toyota parts.

The parts guys at Santa Maria Toyota have been helping out the local Cruiserheads for years with nice "CDan"ish discounts. We really appreciate their support of Surf N Turf and the jobber prices for Cruiserheads.

It wouldn't hurt if you stopped by and purchased a new 200 Series on the way out of town and told them Pismojim sent you. :D
:grinpimp:

One week to go, the 40 is still at Mark's. Front axle is done! Carb install is next. I still need to mount 3 33x9.5s on the stock rims, adjust the back breaks, install the new CD player, reinstall the fan duct and ash tray. Then I should be good to go.

The secret purpose of Surf N Turf (and other events) is too prompt completion of never ending Cruiser projects.

Today, I put the wheels on Knuckles (FJ60) and drove it for the first time since about February. It's been on jack stands since bending my axle housing at last year's Surf N Turf. Yeah, I know, but I've been busy.

It's not quite finished (they never are). But I was able to load it full of about 500+ T-shirts and haul them home so I can sort out your pre-orders. You won't mind a little 90 weight smell on the shirts right? The gear oil containers left over from filling diffs might not have been as empty as I thought.

I might even be able to get the beast to the smog shop on Monday so I can complete the registration.

Fortunately, it looks like the 80 Series and Katherine's FJ40 are in shape to make the lengthy 3 mile trip to the Surf N Turf camp. Did I ever thank you guys for saving me so much gas money? hehehe

Anyway, the shirts look AWESOME!!!
You can hardly see the grease stains on the Navy Blue.

So can I see your FJ60? Put Ruby's plates on it and drive it out to the beach. Then, use Katherine's FJ40 to take the plates back to Ruby and bring it out.

I want to see what you did with that axle, and if you went hydro or not.

See you Thursday!

More Memory lane

Nice pics, but how about lowering expectations...

2002 - The first Surf N Turf we had so much fun we thought we should do it every year!
WE ARE HAPPY CAMPERS, WE LOVE ALL WEATHER!!!

Pier Avenue ramp at kiosk. The big waves ran down the street for a block!

Roland, the Swiss Cruiserhead marking the high water next to the Pier Avenue ramp. Did I mention the weather was in the mid 80s and clear the days before and after this storm. :D

Worried about the creek crossing, well first you have to find the creek. Waves are washing across the entire beach for a half mile. That's Pole two in the distance.
PB080048.JPG

With the beach underwater we had Surf N Turf on my driveway...
Note: An International event with Canadians and Swiss cruiser.
PB090050.JPG

Once we made it to the beach we found out wet sand provides plenty of traction to break left birfield (no we checked) Right Birfield (no we checked), Ring and pinion (Yes, we found it eventually). Please ignore the smiling happy guy, he's from the Philippines and has no idea what is happening. He's always happy for no apparent reason. We're hoping to see him again this year.

We only had about 25 rigs on the beach and we still managed some carnage. We camped in the back dunes, away from the water and wind, with the small group. This happened a hundred yards from camp, which was nice because I could rubber neck without leaving the campfire. BTW, this was no trailer queen, he drove it 250 miles home with goggles.
PB100101.JPG

Something to keep in mind, as radically nasty the weather was, we still had a nice day on Sunday...
PB100113.JPG

We were hooked and definitely ready for the 2nd Annual Surf N Turf in 2003. The weather would have to be better, right? Well it was, barely...

Well.....

As it turned out the 2nd Annual Surf N Turf managed to coincide with another unseasonable storm. Nothing blue tarps and copious amounts of firewood couldn't handle.

The dunes were still fun...

And winning the Poker Run cash pool isn't bad, even if you're sitting under tarps in the rain.

Once again, the happy campers still manage a good time on the beach...

You'll see it. Work in progress...

Checking out the new bump stops this afternoon.

Not a bad plan, but still need some "dialing in". They'll be fine for Surf N Turf.

Them 37x14.5 Toyos are monsters, I still got some sawzall work to do. ;)

2m repeater from the south side

here is what I found out and wrote last year. I have not had a chance to check but these should likely still be working:

-----------

well, I did look around a bit and put out a couple of calls on the air and it seems like a good repeater to use for folks coming from the South is the

Santa Ynez Peak Repeater on 145.180 PL131.8 W6YJO

that one is at about 4000' on the coastal ridge and should cover a good portion of both North and South Santa Barbara County. In fact I tried tonight and was able to raise easily somebody in Arroyo Grande who said that folks are using the repeater at least from the Hollywood Hills down South all the way to SLO on the North. Also Santa Margarita apparently, so maybe even to Pozo? Anyway, it should cover both Pismo I imagine and a good chunk of the way South to L.A. So this may be a good one to use for traffic from/to the South going to SnT on the 101.

[There is/was also the Broadcast Peak repeater on 147.000 (also 131.8) mentioned before but that one was out of order for a long time and even though it is back on the air -I'm told- is now running at reduced power. So may or may not work for Pismo. Not sure.]

HTH a bit

let's just say...it stopped leaking...

trust me, if you are gonna be there, I will be there to shake your hand.

even if you won't have a shot with me...;)

:grinpimp: Right on Brother ! and just so everyone knows I will have my Nephew Steve driving my 40 and I will have the LV War Wagon all shots, beer, and mixed drinks will be going thru him so not to disrespect anyone offering me a drink
OH YEA I can still SING sober :D

funny, I thought the same. Growing up on the East Coast, I have some experience in this area, and once replaced the metal floor of my 1961(!) VW with plywood, just like Rob's fine craftsmanship here. Can't wait to see it in person.
