Snow Run!

So I headed out this morning thinking that at least a couple guys would show up at the A&W. When no one showed up I decided just to head out on my own. I did not get into any serious wheeling, being that I was out alone. But I wanted to make the best of the good weather, and explore some new to me areas. Made it up to 1100m, and there was no snow anywhere. So really did not end up being a snow run.

Here is the GPS map of where I went. The green is where I drove. Bottom right is basically Jordan River. Top right is the highest altitude where I got some good views and found a small lake and bog. Top left is where I found a larger lake. This area is all open, so I don't think there is any issue showing the map here on the forum.

Here is the elevation contour from my house in Victoria, the backroads and then back to Victoria. Shows how high I got.

Found a path leading to Kludahk trail. Followed it to get to the very top of the mountain

Doesn't say I can't drive the landcruiser up there

Signs on the trail. Founds spots to tent camp too.

Saw an outhouse, and then a small house up there.

Radio towers when I reached the summit.

The view I was waiting for did not disapoint. This is facing North. The first valley is the SanJuan River

The little house up there

Found a small iced over lake up there too.

Ice is thick.

Back in the truck now, and noticed the low air pressure effecting my boost guage.

Drove down to check out the bog as it looked pretty interesting

It was very strange to walk on. Really spongy. Completely saturated in water. Look how the tree sank into it.

Deep holes in the bog you would not want to fall into

Poser shot, as I didn't really do any real wheeling

Heading a long ways to the other end of my trip. Wanted to check out a lake and look for more views out that way.

Cold in the shade, and starting to get a bit scratchy.

Found the lake and hiked down a little path to it. Pretty nice really.

Another 70 shot

Went above the lake and tried to get around the other side of the mountain and encountered this. Dead end without a lot of work.
SAM_0115_zpsf9ee2de0.jpg

Looked to be another dead end, as I didn't want to be running my chainsaw alone in case of an accident, but managed in the end to squeeze under it.

Finally got above the lake

Lots of mineralized rocks up there

Thanks a lot guys, glad you liked the pics.

I've found signs like that one on the Kludahk trail in a few spots now. Always a sure sign that you're near the trail. Cool that you guys were up there before too Wombat. I wish we could still get to Wye lake, but that washed out bridge is just too dangerous now (we tried on the Christmas tree run).

The first hill I went up to that summit would definitely have made for a really wicked snow run. We'll have to keep it in mind for when we actually get some snow.

Ironically I actually barely made it out yesterday as well; my son woke up puking his guts out. My wife was not happy I took off all day in the sun, haha! Especially when she figured out I was the only one, lol.

Good pics Nick. Sorry to hear you were solo on this one.

FWIW, Ive had little sleep in the past few days. Focused all efforts towards the search and rescue efforts. So far no news good or bad. The missing person is a member of our fire hall so the whole thing hits a little close to home.

The sheer number of volunteers and all the hard work they put in renews my faith in humanity. Hats off to anyone who volunteers.... for anything.

Wow, I really hope that she shows up ok! What a tough situation. I hadn't been following the news the last couple days, and did not realize it was in the media. Good on you guys for putting in such a big search effort. It is great when people come together like that in a situation like this.
