My snorkel arrived today from Amazon. Thought I'd toss up a few pics of unpacking it to show anyone who's debating ordering. Everything looks good... now just hoping I have time in the next few weeks to install! And like posted before, the outside tube came smooth and unlabeled, no oval either. It has the recycle symbol on the back so I assume that means it was made with recycled plastics? I'm not sure if that would have any effect on its UV tolerance but I guess over the next few years I will find out.

awesome, ive been waiting to hear if the amazon one was the same. going to have to pull the trigger myself

What size head do these snorkles take?
I want to switch it out when I order one.

Got mine yesterday as well. No oval, which I was concerned about. If it had the oval, I was going to sand it down and bedline it.

I'm pretty pleased with the quality of it - although I haven't installed it yet.

I purchased the eBay one...
Its installed minus the last bolt in the fender, Furthest from reach.

The spot where the antenna gasket, and the top of the snorkel touch is tight. But i dont see it as any concern.

I also forgoed the silly rivets for the pillar, and used threaded rivets so it can be removed if ever needed.

Mine looked great for 70 plus 30 shipping. Also missing oval or any branding. Its top inlet is kinda cheap . the plastic weld joining the two halves is not the best and it seems like where it will fail. I strapped it on and it wouldn't stay it would go side ways and could easily pulled off. I ended up using some stick on rubber gasket. And cranked it on over that now its solid unless it hits a branch or something. Also the screen over the inlet is not replaceable so I'm sure I'll end up replacing the top some time.

Finished the install on the ebay snorkel the template was a bit off View attachment 858626 But everything turned out all good had to take out the power antenna to get the 2 bolts View attachment 858627 View attachment 858628 View attachment 858628 View attachment 858629 image-101334706.webp image-2718252835.webp image-1135151996.webp image-2188472604.webp image-2581402952.webp

Sweet, thanks for the share. What size saw attachment did you use? I'm thinking a little too large is better than a little too small. I don't want to have to try to enlarge a too small hole in the fender.

Snorkel installed

Took about 4 hours to install but turned out great. Our experience:

We used a 3 1/4" hole saw which turned out to be too small. The snorkel is tapered from the end and will need a slightly bigger hole.

Drill your big hole first off the pattern then install the studs into the snorkel. The diagram is off a bit on the small holes. Dab some paint the ends of the studs and apply to template. Start with the top holes then do the bottom.

The antenna mast will be in the way so we heated the back side of the snorkel with a heat gun then applied an 1 1/4" pipe to it to reform it. Take your time and don't heat from the top or front side.

You will also need a drill operated rasp type file to grind out the 3 1/4" hole and to remove some of the plastic after the pipe trick for the antenna hole.

In order to have the holes centered on the windshield frame we drilled new holes in the bracket.

Apply POR15 or some other rust inhibitive paint on the bare metal and install. Here's a few pics:

I was pressed for time, light and it was below zero today but I got most of the install done.

I didn't do anything to attach the upper part of the snorkel to the the A-pillar. I don't have a rivot gun I am kinda scared to drill any holes there (u would think the fear would have left when I drilled the 3.5" hole).

Anyway, I have a few questions/concerns:

1). Although I was rushed, especially when finishing up, I could not get the air filter housing to line up with the three holes on the car?? I ended up only using 1 bolt to mount the housing.

Did anyone have to "trim" the rubber elbow to make the housing fit better??

I thought that maybe I mounted the snorkel to high (as it seemed like I could have lined up all three holes if I could lower the connection point) but my install didn't interfere with the antenna....so I am guessing that is not it...??

2). How did you "Gumbys" get the two nuts/washers on that are farthest to the rear of the car?

3). It feels very sturdy and, as indicated above, I have not installed any a-pillar bolts or the rear two. I plan on installing the two once I have some light (and hopefully some heat-my hands were so cold at the end I could barely hold the washer/nuts in my hand).

Anyone else not install A-pillar bolts? If so, did you use an alternative method to secure it or did you just leave it as is?

4). Breathers for diffs and fill all the distributor wires, where the attach to dist, with dialectic grease....and that about does it for "moderate waterproofing?"

Thanks

That looks way too low. Take a picture of it from the front level with the fender. Is it sitting flush?

Looks right to me. Can't go any higher with the antenna. Mine fits the body line exactly.

I thought the antenna had to be notched out. If it doesn't, that's great.

I notched out a hole in the template for the antenna but it doesn't interfere with the snorkel at all.

I think the Safari Snorkels people need do that for....?

All the pics I have seen, have the center of the snorkel close to the middle of where the 1/4 flares out. (See pic)

I don't have pics from the inside of the engine bay, but if anything, I am a little high. If I were to be much higher, the snorkel would hit the upper edge (where the hood slams down) of the engine bay.

It lines up well...if I was a OCD I could do a small bend around the antenna housing....but I think fire+plastic= can of worms that isn't needed to be opened.

The snorkel sits that low even without the antenna on the same side
