BIO apparently doesn't know. He dropped about a thousand country boy notches for even suggesting someone would use treated lumber to BBQ... treated lumber is below using quick start charcoal briquettes. Hell, I'm even getting a chemical smoke headache thinking about it. Seriously, wth?

I'm pretty sure bio was referring to unseasoned wood, high in moisture content, not lumber that's treated with copper or arsenic to stop wood destroying organisms. Firewood that's unseasoned can result in higher levels of creosote formation relative to seasoned or dry wood.

I didn't read anything about treated wood in his posts.

Green wood does cause more creosote formation, that's all he said. Creosote is a carcinogen.

Smoked food does indeed have some carcinogenic activity.

lol.. I've lived in the south longer than you have been alive... and I'm not telling anyone how to do anything, just posting the way I do it.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Did TuT invent some new type of non-carcinogenic smoke? is your smoke better than mine? fill me in.

It's a judgement call. The science is very clear that smoked food has a high level of carcinogens. After careful reveiw of all the info I decided that I'll take my chances. :meh:
 
anyone tried plum tree wood? I've got some wood set aside from a tree I cut down. It's hard, wondering if I should save it for bbq.

I would for sure. As a rule any fruit or nut tree makes good BBQ wood.

I don't think there is a prohibition for pit fruit (laetrile) but I'll look it up real quick...

EDIT: a quick web review showed multiple favorable anecdotes for plum, peach, apricot, and cherry wood. I've used cherry myself. If I could I would use cherry and apple exclusively. :cheers:
