for real, I think I have a lot of work ahead of me to get this rig up and running. I'd say I paid a little over what it was worth in hindsight. Its ok though. I've torn so many 60's apart, it will feel good to do one justice by making it right. Just might take a while. Rather than start a new thread on the build I'll just use this one. No advancement this weekend, building my kids a stumphouse. Got about 20 more hours to put into it before the rains come back.

I think the kids like it. They told me how they want it now that there is a foundation. Gotta love it.

Edit: The stumphouse is made completely out of Pallets I tore apart.

Found an Engine. Its a 2F out of a 1982 FJ40. It is currently in Alaska and making its way down on the 27th which will now motivate me to get the rest of the front end torn out and ready for the new one.

I think its the exact same engine and that it will work. It has a Holley Carb on it and the header and is fully dressed. I don't know if I want to go with the header or the Carb. Need to read up on desmogging the beast.

There you are, if that 40 engine comes with everything make sure you part out your old 2f. Selling parts for cheap you should be able to get 200$ withen a couple weeks pretty easy. You'll be shipping stuff out like crazy though.

What's total cost for that 2F after getting it down here and all?

Thanks man,

You should come up to the cruiser head meeting tomorrow night at Toyota Off-Road Fabrication | Home for beer and burnt food. More info on Seattle Cruiserheads - Home website.

I know we just had a meet and were talking about making the trek up to torfab's place but its just to far w/traffic for us. One day we should just get all Seattle and us southsounders on one big meet.

Here are some sneek peek of the pictures. I'm wondering if all I have to do is just drop it in. I asked my local cruiserheads what I should do prior to dropping it in.

1. Source a new clutch
2. Replace the pilot bearing
3. Replace the Rear Main Seal
4. Replace the exhaust gasket
5. Replace Water Pump
6. Replace Thermostat
7. Check timing cover for leaks
8. New Gaskets between manifold and carb
ALL After I get some compression numbers of the engine.

I've been watching some stuff on youtube on getting compression on an engine outside the rig. Shouldn't be too hard. ****but I'm a bad estimator****

Here are a few pictures of the Engine that is on its way. And one of a rig that followed me home tonight. I can't say no to a good deal.

Sweet 2F coming your way. old skool

The parts you listed to replace sound like a good idea.

Whats up with that 62?

Couldn't pass it up for what I paid for it. Its what I should have paid for the Ghetto Fab rig :). I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. 262,000 miles, guy said the engine was blown. NO oil under it and a dead battery. I got it for a good deal. It has new tires on it and thats what I paid for it.

The body is completely rust free, no cancer anywhere but its a little banged up.

I hope I get to the engine compartment today, but I need to go pick up my RV and head to the cruiserheads tonight so likely nothing will be touched on my ghetto ride.

The carb on the donor is a Holley. Chances are you will hate it when you leave the pavement. I tried twice to get one of those things to work consistently on a 2F and gave up twice. FTR, I am much, much better than the average Joe when it comes to carb tuning. A desmogged stock carb, a Weber (works great if you know how to set it up) or FI are the best options.

New rubberband

Before I landed the engine from Alaska, I posted a want ad on craigslist. A guy in Shoreline had one tucked away in the dark spaces in his garage. He was at a yardsale a few years back and was offered this piece for FREE when he pulled up in his 40.

His plans changed and he will put a 350 in if his 1F ever fails. I am deeply appreciative of his generous gift.

I picked it up today and getting it on the trailer I had was something this side of hillarious.

Here is an updated video of the engine and what I've been up to.

I'm still going to honor buying the 2f from Alaska so if anyone local need an 82 FJ40 2F for $500 let me know.

Looking good, man!

Engine out!

Engine is out. Trying to figure out a good way to get compression from the other engine I have sitting there.

My son loves to help work on the cruisers.

Another video. You can tell I'm tired.

I go back to work in 10 days and hope I can get this beast done and driving by then. Never put stuff back together so its slow. Great experience though.

I'm beginning to think My engines are breeding.

Quick update - Got the stock shackles and bushings I need to bring this truck back to safe. Got the engine in, need to hook up a few trinkets and will be ready to see if the free engine I got works.

Been a little busy - with these two additional rigs I picked up - 1989 FJ62 - also got a 40k engine to go in it (hole in block) and 87 FJ60 driving donor for the 2FE project I want to star for my son's newly acquired 78 FJ40. I'm going to sell this one when I'm done and let someone else finish it, bringing it back to the safe zone, ready for customization.

Left to right 6|5|4|3|2|1 Spark plugs.

I've never seen a plug so gunked up! Whoever put these in never wanted them to come out. Broke most of them as I had to use a breaker bar!

I love it when someone thinks it's necessary to tighten spark plugs as tight as they possibly can get them. WTF!

Actually, as a paid wrench, I see a lot of way-too-tight things. Some of them female, but that's another thread for another forum... :grinpimp:

Oh, and not just LC's need some head work from time to time...

When I remodeled our home, I got the kitchen, new floors, cabinets, bathroom's etc all done in 3 months.... however it took 3 years to get to the 5% that remained... ya know, baseboards etc.

Well Everything is zipped up, just need to put some hoses on and new oil in the engine and start it up. Just taking a while. I have ADD, got another cruiser ready for another heart transplant 3FE and a John Deere Garden tractor project going as well as some "hey its going to rain for about 6 months so I need to address storage and shelter" issue projects going on which are almost complete.

As soon as the ghetto fab is running, I will drop back to stock with good shackles and put it up for sale.
