I did this same process on a 99 LX I used to have, and it was sort of a chore. Regarding waxing the surface on which you're going to apply the emblems, I wouldn't recommend that. They probably will stick, but I wouldn't want to make a less-sticky surface for the emblems. I would recommend washing the exact area where the emblems will be with Dawn (it removes grease, wax, etc.) Then, I would wax the area in/around the emblem AFTER they're applied.......just my opinion.

The emblems came off fairly easily but left lots of the adhesive that I have not had time to remove yet. Did you go to the trouble of waxing the area where the newly painted emblems are going to go? I was planning on doing that.

I agree with dnp. Make sure you clean off all of the old adhesive and make sure the surface is perfectly clean before you put the new ones on. Wax might do more harm than good.

Thanks for the advice on the emblems. I thought it would be a good time to wax the whole area since the emblems would be off. Make sense that the emblems might not stick very well after a fresh coat of wax. Its very difficult to wax around the emblems after they are in place though....If the weather cooperates this weekend, I will get the old adhesive off the back and get them painted and re-installed.

I don't have any 3M DS tape yet. Will be looking for some over the next couple of days.

I posted some interior pics of my Pioneer nav unit and my hard wired Valentine 1 on the main page....

I think it was Duplicolor smoke satin. Just go find a color you like.

You will need some dental floss or thin fishing line to get the old emblems off. Then you have to remove the residual glue from the truck and the emblems. My paint still showed a faint shadow where the emblems were. Sand and paint. I recommend multiple coats especially on the front grill emblem. Get some thin 3M double sided adhesive tape and stick em back on. The front emblem attaches with a couple of screws.

I really liked the dark rear emblems, but the front emblem gets lost in the grill since there is little contrast.

Come to the Feb meeting and hopefully Spivey will have it there.

Hey Lash,

What's the trick to getting the rear toyota emblem off? Where are the pegs located? I tried using a heat gun and dental floss, but I can't get it to budge...I searched on the main forum but didn't get anything that helps with that one. Thanks.

Lash,

How did you get the rear center Toyota emblem off? Where are the pegs located? I tried to use a heat gun and dental floss. It didn't budge.

I searched the forum but didn't find an answer.

The pegs are just above the center line. You still need to use the dental floss/fishing line to free the adhesive. Its a lot easier to line back up when its time to reattach due to the pegs.

After looking at the Spector video at Greg's did you decide if you want to lift your hunnerd yet ?

Well I would like to lift it at some point but not right now. I still use it too much on road to justify making it more useful off road and less useful on road. New tires and slider steps will be the next 2 purchases for me....

a mild lift and a little bigger tire really won't diminish the Onroad characteristics of your hunnerd. Mine actually rode better after I Lifted it. I am not pushing you i am am just saying.
I still daily drive my 80.

What tires are you thinking about getting? Tires seem to affect the ridemore than anything IMHO.

I was thinking about getting:

BFG A/T
Nitto Terra Grapplers
Cooper Zeon LTZ
Cooper S/T
Michelin LTX AT

The problem is when I bought my LC it has new Michelin LTX AS tires. they have 3500 miles on them. Its tough to justify ditching them and losing so much money just to get new AT tires. Furthermore, i would like to get some Tundra 18s instead of the OEM 16s. Decisions...decisions

Use the Tundra 18s as your street wheel/tire and put some MTs on the OEM 16s for wheelin. Sell the new Michelins while still new.

If I had an open checkbook that would be great....unfortunately I don't at this time. I would rather spend the other 1000.00 on a set of sliders instead of a second set of tires. I got a set of the Tundra wheels today. I should get them by next week. Will be saving for tires for those rims shortly. Probably just sell the other tires and the 16s

you should be able to sell the tires you have.

Let the fun begin. post up a pic of your hunnerd with the tundra rims. that should look pretty sweet.

Will do. have to put some tires on the Tundra rims first though....Still trying to decide what to buy

Well I got the running boards off and the emblems removed, sanded, painted and ready to go back on. I bought a set of used 18" tundra wheels and ordered some new tires from Chris. They should be here by the end of the week.

As far as the emblems go, I am not sure I am going to put them all back on. I put the sombrero one on just to see how it would look. Since it has holes, that one will be the only one I am putting back on soon. I currently have a small piece of scotch tape covering the holes since it will not stop raining!!

Now saving for some slider steps. That will complete my mods for a while. Have to see what a couple of trips out make me want to do!!

I will have a set of OEM 16" wheels for sale and a set of 275/70 15 Michelin LTX A/S tires with less than 4K miles on them if anyone is interested. I will place them in the classifieds here and on Craigs to see if there is any interest....

The Cooper S/T is a good lookin' tire! A little more agressive than the BFG but still an AT. Chris has them in stock.
