i got a front smittybilt bumper at the pomona swap meet but it didnt come with any mounting brackets. the guy i that sold it to me told me they were cut off. im putting them on my 88 4runner. i have no idea how they are supposed to be mounted anyone have any advice?

Howdy! My 85 had one of those when I bought it. The bumper is now on my neighbor's 86. IIRC, it just has two stubs that mate up to the existing holes in the frame. I would get some scrap angle or channel, bolt it up to the frame first, then hold the bumper up to see how long you want it to be, in order to have it out away from the grill a little bit. Cut the stubs, tack weld in place, pull it off and weld the crap out of it, prime it, paint it, hang it back on the rig. John

Perfect. That's exactly what I was gonna say.

Additionally, I hope you're not expecting any real protection from the s***tybuilt, because they're not very strong.

You know, you say that, but I have a s***tybuilt bumper on the back of my truck, and I've been rear-ended 3 times now, and it took it in stride. The last time was a full-size Chevy, he hit me while I was sitting still at a stop light. Fortunately I had a trailer hitch in the receiver, so it took the brunt of the hit. Not a scratch on my bumper, but his bumper and grille were destroyed. He was as shocked as I was.

But I've scraped, wire-brushed, and painted that POS 3 times now and it still continues to rust.

I to have to say sh!!tybuilt I bought my 82 and they are on the front and rear the 1st time I took it out I dented the rear bumper on a 2inch tree...
