UPDATE - February 9, 2009

Hello Everyone!

Camping information is now finalized!

If you have not already done so, please complete the Skyline Ride Survey so we can get a idea of who all is coming.

Mt. Dew and BamaBleach have graciously offerred to let us camp on their property located right off HWY 79 on County Road 143. The camp site is located approx. 4 miles South of the ride meeting point at HWY 79/CR 146.

You can get directions using MapQuest or MSN maps, however I DID NOT have luck using Google maps.

Use the following address for directions:

765 County Road 143
Scottsboro, AL 35768

There should be plenty of room for everyone. We will be camping on the site of an old chicken house that was removed in the 70s, so the ground is firmly packed and level. However, if you are bringing a tow rig, camper, or combination of both place let me know.

We will have access to a bathroom in Mt. Dew's shop, but no showers. The bathroom uses a primative septic system, so we'll have to limit its use.

We will be allowed to build a camp fire, but firewood may not be available. If everyone camping brings a little bit of firewood we should be safe.

I will be providing dinner Saturday night for everyone interested in DixieLand Cruisers and/or camping at the site.

Stay tuned to this thread. I will be posting information as it becomes available.

On directions to the camp site:

Google maps can't even find my parents house when you put in the address and I just checked map quest and it tells you to turn west on County Road 143 when should be going east. So I did a screen capture of the google satellite image and made my on map for you guys.

Hope this helps:

Werd, just wanted to let you and everyone else know I will have plenty of fire wood ready to go. If the weather looks to be wet I will try and have a place fixed either in my shop or under the remaning part of an old chicken house where we keep our off road trucks. I will also try to get us some tables and chairs to eat at.

bomar, still going? please get the steering gear box from bill riiiiiley if so... and bring that rim.

I may stay in a hotel if I can get some locals of Auburn going....

It looks like I am out.

I moved this past weekend and I still have alot of clean up on the house in Memphis this weekend and can't go play.

E the rim is in the garage in M town so if anyone from M town goes then I will give it to them.

I'm lookin forward to wheelin with yall again sometime.:flamingo::beer:

I decided to turn around and leave due to my 4wheel drive screwing up again. Previously I had driven it off-road in 4wheel drive for an extended period over north of Florence AL with no problems...between the last run at Skyline. Well fate had a cruel joke for me yesterday....got out on the trail and no front axle turning (but front driveshaft is powered and turning). Decided I did not want to continually get stuck as I only had 2 wheel drive and turend around while I could do so under my own power.

Got home...we tied the truck to a large tree to put it under a load and sure enough...front axle not powered...but front drive shaft turning. We initially thought the hubs were not locking. Took the right side hub all the way down and removed the birf and everything looked ok. Took the left side hub off and it check out. You can manually turn the driver side axle at the hub and the drive shaft will turn (engine off , transfer case in neutral). You can maually turn the passenger side axle and the drive shaft will not turn (engine off , transfer case in neutral).

So given that I have power to the front differential and I believe the birfs are ok and we confirmed the operation of the hubs to lock... I suspect my auburn LSD is not working properly. Put it all back together and bled the brakes, went back out to friendly tree. 4wheel low, my friend chould hear the hubs lock....put a load on the truck against the tree.... once agin no 4 wheel drive, front drive shaft is turning...both front tiredsnot powered, both rear tires are powered.

I have an Auburn LSD in the front and back. The one in the back seems to work fine. The one in the front as descrived above, is not working right. No signs of anything broken physically, no funny noise. But clearly my front two tires not under power.

It may be time to look at something like the aussie locker for the front or a power traxx no slip locker. I had a power traxx in the rear axle and it worked fine. It takes a different part number for the front axle. I've read where a number of guys like the aussie product. I do know the power traxx is well built and performs well. I removed the one I had from the rear axle because I got tired of the ratcheting action on the pavement and the almost requirment to have the clutch depressed during slow turns on pavement. Maybe all that will have to change as I'm tired of things screwing up 4 wheel drive wise off-road.

Sorry I made the call to leave...but I did nto want to continaually have to be pulled out and cause problmes for the other guys on the trail with me. Hopefully we'll get this solved soon.

Dang Elbert, sorry you had trouble again. Third times a charm?:D

Yeah.... 2nd screwup at Skyline! I'm getting good at it. I was thinking the problem was fixed as I had driven the truck for an extended period in 4 wheel drive just a couple of weeks ago, but not the case. I do know the Auburn LSD is comeing out. I plan on calling Auburn (Richmond Gear I think) tomorrow to see what they say.

Not made up my mind yet... aussie or power traxx... No matter what Auburn does...I'm leary of putting an Auburn LSD back in the front now, after we spent all that time and work getting it intstalled and now it apparently screws up.

I hated leaving....but I did not want to screw up everyone else's good time and at that point on the trail I could leave under my own power.

You will get it figured out. Come out to the ride SMC is having in April and maybe you will have better luck.
