Hi, The torque converter transfers power from engine to transmission . Above 200,000 miles it’s probably getting weak.Mike
Thought of that as well but its only going into drive all other gears work as should, if the torque converter would be going it wouldnt transfer into any of the other gears the same way

Well I got it all back together and it seemed promising on the first drive, but the second it acted up again. I just cleaned (what I think is) the neutral safety switch connector (photos attached). Please let me know if this is the correct connector. It's the only barrel style connector I could see near the PHH.
One male end looked a little crusty so I tried to clean it with some tweezers. Sprayed some electrical cleaner in the female side. About to go for a drive so we'll see.

By the way, the manual says drain and refill capacity is 6.3 quarts. I initially put in 6 quarts and it barely read on the dip stick while hot. Granted it was draining for ~48 hrs.

Cleaning the connector apparently did not help. Still experiencing this intermittent problem.
I'm in the same boat, replaced solenoids yesterday morning, let the fipg cure 24 hours. Filled up with fluid and still sluggish start. My NSS was already switched out the most corroded part was under the pesky heater hose have you checked that end ? Today I will check the transmission control module and check for loose plugs into that

Mine took 10 quarts of fluid to finally hit the mid mark while hot. That surprised me.

yah, I'm not sure what to make of it. I've checked after the past 3 drives. Came up to temperature, park, engine running. It's in between the two HOT marks.
Any progress?
I just changed the ATF on my July '95 80. I got 5 quarts out of the pan and another 6 1/2 to fully flush it.

I haven't experienced the issue for a week. After replacing the solenoids, I experienced the issue on the second drive. Then I realized I was 4 quarts low on fluid. Once it was topped off, I haven't experienced it.
I can't say that the issue is truly gone. Or if it is, what I did to fix it. I only drive it occasionally so we'll see.
So I found another neutral safety switch and tried that one and it seemed to stop the sluggish start off problem! but with that switch my P R D 2 L PWR ODOFF lights stopped working in the cluster anyone know why this would happen ?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I spoke too soon the sluggish start is back but some of the lights are back as well. Thinking this has to do with continuity from the harness ??
I am curious about this as well. I have a ‘94 FZJ80 with about 307000 miles. I get the sluggish start every once in a while. Usually happens after sitting in the drive through at In-N-Out for a long time. I will start driving and it feels like it is struggling to go. It goes back to normal after a couple minutes. The majority of the time the truck drives great and has plenty of power for what it is.
Following this. Mine did the same thing awhile back. But then it just stopped doing it. I’m scared it’s going to come back. Please share if you find the issue.

Be aware that the 93-94 have a different transmission and have different symptoms than the transmissions in a 95-97.
