I'm hoping someone can supply some info on reattaching the vertical bar in the sliding windows in a FPR top.
I got the window runs in but I am not sure about some details.
Any help is appreciated.

In this pic, is the little tab supposed to be bent almost flat?

Does the vertical bar just sit in that cut-out area of the rubber run? Does something slip over the metal tab?

I got the "pads" but I am not sure if one goes at the bottom or the top or both. Seems like the fur or bristles go against teh window glass, right?

Hello,

The tab is correct. The vertical bar just slides in the slot.

The "pad" with foam goes on top of the upper end of the vertical bar. The other goes on the lower end.

In a nutshell:
  1. Put a tarp on the floor and place the frame over it.
  2. Carefully, put your left foot to the right side of the frame slot.
  3. Put your left foot to the left side of the slot.
  4. Very gently, pull the upper side of the frame and slide the windows glass in. Hint: it is good to have somebody to help.
  5. Pull the upper frame side and slide the vertical bar in, the upper end first. Make sure the foam "pad" is in.
  6. Slide in the lower end with its "pad."
  7. Pull the upper frame side and slide the other window glass in.
  8. The vertical bar has a hole for a screw on its lower end. Make sure it is aligned with a corresponding hole in the frame and put the screw in.
  9. Tighten the screw.
  10. Check the windows. If they do not slice easily, loosen the screw. Otherwise, leave it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Juan. One thing I found was the parts catalog says I only need 2 of the pads in total so I guess that's one each at the top of the bar.
It seems strange that the bar is not firmly attached at the bottom. When I put the frame back into the FRP top I'll need to make sure the top to bottom distance is tight so the glass can't ever fall out.
I chopped and welded some custom spreader tools. Makes the glass install very easy.

Hello,

There should be a screw in the bottom for the bar.

If the screw is too tight, the windows will not slide. If it is too loose, the windows may fall out when sliding.

There is no need for tight distance.

There’s a screw hole at the top of the window frame but not at the bottom. I can’t see any way to tightly attach the bottom of the vertical weatherstrip bar.

I'm not certain, but I think the screw is only at the top, with nothing at the bottom. Here's a decent write up on troopy sliding windows which may help:

And a lot to weed through but some good info from the 60 series side that I've saved as reference material:

Thanks!
I thought maybe the channel that holds the rubber weatherstrip is meant to slip over the cut ends of the sheet metal in the frame but the gap (where the tab is bent over) is too wide.

Hello,

I think I confused it. It is in the top.

I remember that I tightened it too much. The windows did not move. After loosening it, they slid normally.

The screw goes into the circle you marked in green. It is a self-tapping screw.
