Sorry, slight hijack, but somewhat related comment...what about a rear tire carrier that folds down instead of swinging out, folding to where the spare is under the bed when fully lowered. Would it stick out too far? Just an idea...

Cheers,
Joel

I've been trying to come up with an alternative spare tire holder rather than the swingout or interior but haven't come up with anything worthwhile yet. Can you elaborate more on your concept or throw us a quick sketch?

I have always liked Slee's stuff, but I did decide to mount mine to the third row mounting bracket and then have the tire firmly on the floor to hold my CO2 tank for my lockers. The tire mount arm also slides up and down to handle smaller/bigger tires.

Wow....

How did you get the tread on your spare tyre to change like that?...

My idea is just a thought, and I have a fab guy here in town that might be able to bring it to fruition. I will post a sketch if I can get one together....
:cheers:Joel

I like your idea, but I can't tell if you welded to the 3rd row seat bracket, or did you use the seat side sliding mount, so it can easily be removed? Also, what did you do for mounting the tire, just a plate with studs?

gbell - I welded to the seat bracket, and yes the tire is mounted to a plate with studs/bolts welded to it.

I wish I had used studs, but bolts was all I had when I was making the thing.

Back to the original 2 year old title. I've been running around with that 35" spare turnbuckled in the rear of the 80. Kudo's to you guys that can build your own solution :)

I don't have the equipment, the time or the patience

When I found out Slee ran another batch of the Interior Mounting Bar I jumped on it.

I mean, how sweet is this? Instant gratification!

Nice, I'll probably be ordering shortly as well.
Whats the going cost along with shipping if you don't mind me asking? As it should be the same for me since I'm right around your area as well :)
