skid plates

under my 74 there are some protection plates, which are ok but i do not consider them full on hd skid plates.

has anyone built there own 70's heavy duty skid plates?

i normally throw out my skid plates since they only seem to collect mud...
i ahve been thinking of bending tubs to replace the skid plates since this woudl allow the mud to be removed and could be modified for particular applications...

simple tubes could work very well and would be easyer to fit then plates.

Yah I second the tube Idea. Would not be easy though. You would need a rally big bending machine to get the pipe big enough to be of protection.

Not sure how well the design would transfer to a leaf sprung 70, but they do it for me. You can just blast the mud out the side with mine.

that works but not what i had in mind. i am thinking front cross tube, rear cross tub and tubes running front to beack between the frotn and rear tubes...
maybe this week i will give the idea a try..

That could be pretty cool Wayne, definitely easier to clean. I'd still put just a little plate directly under the lowest part of the t-case tho to protect against stray rocks.

I saw a plate that protected the t/case on a 40 series once.
It was like the OEM 70 series bash plate but replaced the crossmember as well.
Would be a great idea if someone got it into production
