I figure I'd post a build here as this truck will spend most of it's time roaming around the island . Building it primarily for going back and forth to mt washington but probably use it for hunting and a little camping as well . Found an 83 bj60 down in duncan with 285,000 kms on it in need of a clutch and passenger door/rocker . Got it home and put it in the shop . Got a clutch from Radd and stuck it in tuesday . Also had to replace the clutch master and the bushing and cup from the shifter in the h55. Took it for a little test drive yesterday afternoon up copper canyon . Put on about 100 kms no issues seems to run good not too many rattles .

Plans include . Turboing the 3b , Spring over , Sliders , Front bumper with a winch and rear bumper with a swing out carrier and a spot for a hi-lift . Also gonna re-gear to 4.88 and put a locker in the back . Got a good start on the sliders today .

Found a set of wheels and a pair of tires a few weeks ago and spent some time searching for a couple to match up to them . Thanks to Rob Milson for helping me find them . Gonna start with 35's and see how it works .

Some days I don't have to go to work . I just work in my shop all day . I have a couple of weeks off so this project should gain momentum pretty quick . Hoping to have it mostly done before they get enough snow at washington to ski .

This is the rear bumper I made a couple of weeks ago . I made it for the other 60 I bought before I found this one . Still have to add the swing out , gotta figure out what I want to use for a pivot pin . Probably stick it on the new truck tomorrow .

Good stuff Mr. Able. Sliders look great.

Re: gearing and tires,

For what its worth I run 37's and 4.56:1's (H55). My truck is happy at 80kph (aprox.2000rpm) 90kph is aprox 2300rpm.

I spent some time with the speedo in the tripple digits on my Yukon trip and the B felt mildly unhappy and milage went from 12L/100kph to 14.4L/100k. (loaded weight)

Cam.

Hey cam have is that with your mark's gears taken into consideration as well ? I think the 4.88's may be a bit too much but I will probably end up on 37's anyway . Not really that concerned with mileage . Gonna put a tank in for veggie oil and build a small refinery in my shop too see just what I can burn in a 3b ? Also I'm building this on the cheap . Most of the stuff I have kickin' around or just has to be fabricated . I'll do a breakdown near the end and tally it all up .

Haven't seen mike for a while . I think he's been pretty busy . I like the rotary , It lifts up all the different cars I own . That combined with a tranny jack and clutch jobs are a cinch .

I'm building a shop right now and looking for some ideas before the walls go up. Caught your build thread on another site, I should grab Donnie and a box of beers and check out your shop next time I'm home from work.
Cheers!

Pick me up on the way by...

Having a lift is just cheating tho....c'mon, tell me you wouldn't miss lying on your back with welding cherries burning through your jeans near the crotch....:bang:

I need one for this nazi wagon I'm driving in now. can barely fit my freakin arm under it without ramps.

Lookin good Abel. Lemme know if you need any stuff. I still have those old stocker rims of yours in the goat barn, they'd look pretty cool on there.

I thought you might have a heap of good parts to choose from. The marks gears I have dont affect "hi range". (other than the school bus whine)

I'm happy with my ratios as they are very close to stock gearing but I do get passed a lot. South of Fort Nelson the rig trucks me so fast I thought I was going backwards.

I think the veggie oil thing is also a great idea and look forward to seeing what you do.

There was a guy in an article I read that had a transmission shop, he filtered the used ATF and burnt it in his 7.3Powerstroke and had done so for several years with no problems. Considering that a 3B might just run on tar sand crude, perhaps Dan can bring a few shovelfuls back!

When you take photos Able, pan out a bit so I can drool over that shop of yours in the background.

Got the sliders done and sprayed a bit of paint on them . Also swapped the bumper from the other one over . Gotta go down to vic in the morning and pick up a new door for the pass side . Maybe I'll get a start on the new front bumper in the afternoon . That's kinda the order of the way I hope to do this Sliders, Bumpers , SOA then turbo . Regardless of the progress of the front bumper I'll be starting the spring over on monday morning .

Nice work:beer:.

I did a few Plantdrive installs on BJ60s they are good parts and pretty easy to install. One guy I did the install for owns Thirsty Camel (best damn wrap you will ever get) in nanaimo, free veggie oil all day long and the guy surfed every weekend on the west coast. .

Rob

Hey Rob do you still have that tank design you had way back when ? I have to get sprung over and turboed before I get into veggie but I might as well start thinking about the parts .

Long gone, use to have all the dimensions.

We bent up a couple tanks for Ronny Zitlaw, one out of aluminum .100 and the other out of 18 gauge stainless.

Of course Ron will be tig welding these up himself, they turned out pretty good,.

I personally would get rid of the under tire carrier and do a side by side tank and get a 60 series filler neck from a rusted out wreck and weld it on the otherside of the truck. Veggie oil sloshing around in the truck stinks.:meh:

Years back I had all the parts rounded up for this install, then sold the truck with parts.

Rob

I think that's the idea Rob , two tanks under the truck in the back . I was thinking about the two filler caps as well . Got the front bumper done to the point where I could forget about it for a few days . Really wanna start the Spring over . hopefully tomorrow . Here are a couple of pics of the backside .
