My son is building a 3-link suspension and we got a bit stuck. Due to the 3-links, he needs to transfer the steering to the front.

I grabbed a random photo off the internet to illustrate our problem.

At point 1, we need some kind of connector/socket that will allow both the steering rod from the steering box as well as the steering rod from wheel to wheel. Is there such a thing? Where?

At point 2 we need an arm. We assume the JDM/AUS/UK factory steering arm will do the trick as this will be a mirror of the EU/US arm that's on the US-passenger-side wheel. But is there anything else? Something better?

Due to budget constraints we are not interested in high-steer knuckles, or the slee high-steer plates which cost as much as the knuckles anyway. We are fine with the regular height of the steering. Weld-on options are not a problem. We have TIG and MIG.

you could run the tie rod UTK in the rear and move your lower link mounts higher so the links are over the tie rod. This would require drilling out the taper and using heims.

If you want to stay in the front you can run the tierod UTK and then have the drag link OTK with heims and have a single long grade 8 both clamping joints on the passenger side. This would require drilling out the TRE taper.

3rd option is to run a T-steering like on Rams in which the drag link connects directly to the tie rod. Would require drilling and tapering for correct TRE or Heim.

You need a High Steer knuckle kit. It moves the connection to the top of the knuckle.

Yeah, I don't know of any options that come in between
  • sourcing a second arm and cobbling something together
  • high steer knuckles
I haven't priced the imported steering arm, but at the price Front Range is charging, you'll probably be 2/3 of the way there before you make something that works half as well. Just my 2 cents, but this is probably one of those deals where you just want to bite the bullet and open your wallet.

Not super common, but use to see mounts welded to the knuckle in the mini truck world a long while back.

Here is one example on an 80

RHD steering arm looks to be $178 from Cruiser Outfitters FYI.
