So I had the same problem as many of us to with the little plastic retaining nuts breaking and no longer holding the sill plate steps on their studs. Since these studs are some strange metric thread pitch it is hard to find something to replace the plastic nuts with.. Here is what I came up with and it works great.. And seems like it works better than those silly plastic nuts from the factory..
First off get your 10-24 die and re-tap that stud:
Go to the hardware store and pick up four of these little guys I think they call them binding posts or barrel bolts 10-24 and some washers..
Then screw them down and you are ready to roll.. Paint them whatever color you like if ya wanna. I painted mine to match the body color.. The lighting makes them look brighter than they really are..
